I am separated with two college age children and work in a hospital.
I first noticed Alopecia Areata 4 years ago which started with loonie size patches mostly on the left side of my head. Since then I have gone on to develop 2 more autoimmune diseases. I am still getting used to this new me and have had regrowth and lost it again. I am in the process of losing my eyebrows now and some new patches appeared recently.
I am happy that I have found this site as it is reassuring at times to know that what I am experiencing (the feeling of a burning scalp etc) is part of this condition.
Thanks
Unfortunately, I was only able to go to the Alpocia Palooza on Friday afternoon. I saw only one vendor - Debbie from Fuller Hair. Even Debbie seemed surprised to see me, an adult, at this event for children. The make-up events were scheduled for Saturday and due to a previous committment, I was unable to go. Has anything such as this ever been established for those with alopecia in general?
I am not sure myself. I saw it listed on the Bald Ladies Do Lunch website and decided to go, as I live 10 min. from Philly. Now that I look closer, it seems geared toward children. It does have some make-up workshops (which interests me). Will let you all know tonight what happens!

Thankyou I had a brilliant weekend, and yourself?
Im glad you enjoy your job, as there is nothing worse having to go to a job that you dont enjoy! I love my job and am apllying to be a nurse at the moment!
Hello Wendy, thankyou for your kind words. Yes I think this site is amazing doesnt make you feel "so" alone. What part of care are you in?
I hope you are well

Thanks for th encouragement. This is a photo of me trying on wigs. I have 4 but I never wear them. I sweat too much and they are too itchy for me. I wear bandanas and scarfs all the time and go bald at home. This is more.....me! or perhaps it is because I just haven't found that one wig that I feel right in?
I too have lost my eyebrows, eyelashes too, in fact I have lost everything on my body. The brows and lashes are the hardest to deal with. Apparently I am pretty good at drawing them on, because a lot of people think they are real. Who knew I had a talent!
It is nice to meet you. I think at some point we should try and get us Ottawa area "survivors" together and vent and laugh and well whatever.
You have a great long weekend too, I will be painting the house all weekend, good? not sure yet.
Take care,
Natalie
Ha ha! No, I just snip 'em and wear 'em! I told you I was cheap............lol That way, if I mess them up, I have only myself to blame! My email address is juliaforester@yahoo.ca. Hope you have a great day. Take care and talk soon.
Hi Wendy,
Great to meet you! And you are the first person with AA I've found in Ottawa, believe it or not! I don't know any eyebrow technicians - I too thought about having it done, but mine have come back a bit (very patchy though) and I use a Rimmel eyebrow pencil to fill in the gaps. Thank you for your kind words. I buy my wigs on eBay and never pay more than $50 or so!!! Cheap or what?!!!! As for scarves, I love them and wear them when the wigs start to get me down. I sometimes wear hats, but I'm always afraid they'll come off. Please feel free to email me if you want to chat.
