As far as the shots working, they may help temporarily. There's really no cure for alopecia but there are treatments, such as the shots, that will help the symptoms.
I never wore a hat. As my condition progressed from spots to full baldness I just wore my hair different ways until I finally got a wig. I have been wearing wigs for many years now.
How much will fall out? That is totally unpredictable. In some cases it will grow back and never fall out again. In others, like mine, it could progresss to universalis. Most people are somewhere in between.
