- Started losing my hair at 16 years of age. I noticed that I wasn't just losing hair on my head but also on my arm, legs,eye lashes, eye brows and pubic area. Consulted a dermatologist in 1974 and he said nothing can be done for me. Buy a wig. Of course as I grew older, my entire body is pretty much gone. I now know more about alopecia, but back in days of my youth, it was summed up to a cosmetic problem rather than a disease. I don't see the alopecia in my family or its history.
