- I am 29 years and have had alopecia areata for 20 years. I have just brought my first wig and still getting used to wearing it but loving the freedom its given me, I no longer hide under hats and scarfs! I'm working on being more confident in who I am and being honest and open about my alopecia instead of hiding it. It's a daily battle but I'm getting there and finding my strength and voice.
