On my scalp there are discolored areas that are much lighter than my natural skin tone. What is that about?

Around the age of 8, I was diagnosed with alopecia universalis. About 5 years later, it came back in and ever since I've been with hair...until about 2 months ago. I'm now 31 and the hair is completely gone. I will admit I had to get re-adjusted to not having hair again, but at least I knew what to expect.
