Just a question to throw out there..... I saw Oprah yesterday and the were talking about hair transplants and how they have improved over the years. Does anyone know if they are ever used for AA? Can someone else donate hair for say a family member? Is it not effective because the patients immune system would attackor reject the hair if Alopecia is not in a remission? Thank You.

Ditto,
It doesn't work because the AA will attack the new hair the same as it did your original hair. Don't go there.

My (ex)girlfriend had a hair transplant done on Sept 24, 2008. She has AA. The doctor agreed to do one side of her head (right side). He did 760 grafts, taken from the back of the head. If after three to four months they are holding nicely, he will do the other side.

Hi Mauricio,
Good Luck to her. It is all a matter of if the new hair is attacked by the AA. If she's lucky, the AA will shut itself off and it might hold. We'll keep our fingers crossed for her.
