I got home late this evening after a busy day with the family. After having a late dose of caffeine I had a hard time going to sleep and whenever that happens I get back up to avoid the frustrations of insomnia and try to do something productive like reading a book.
Lately I've been reading the book our group's been discussing all month, Go Put Your Strengths to Work by Marcus Buckingham which is a fantastic book on working on your strengths instead of your weaknesses.
Tonight, I don't know about you all but sometimes I have anxieties and think about the future and of course my past failures as well as where I could be if I didn't procrastinate as much sometimes. I just seemed to get in that zone as I have yet to start my mens Richer Life Group which is a weekly discussion designed to help us men Grow to be better husbands as well as better and more effective leaders that I graduated from the course at my church two months ago.
All this time I have been saying that I'm not perfect as I have so much stuff in my life that is not perfect and its not the time to get started and a ton of other excuses as why I haven't started as yet, I picked up this book Leadership Gold by john Maxwell and an excerpt
Insist on learning from Your Mistakes which seem to jump from the pages an blew me away.
I thought I needed to share this with you all
Author and leadership expert Tom Peters writes " from the smallest branch to the corporate level, there is nothing more useless than the person who says at the end of the day, as their own report card 'Well I made it through the end of the day without screwing up"
There are two common responses people have concerning failure, While one person hesitates because he feels inferior, the other is busy making mistakes and learning from them to become superior. People can either run from mistakes and hurt themselves or learn from them and help themselves.
People who try to avoid failure at all costs never learn and end up repeating themselves over and over again. But those who are willing to learn from their failures never have to repeat them again.
..Good people are good because they have come to wisdom through failure, We get very little wisdom through success.
Well that is some powerful stuff that we all need to hear especially me and of course I will be working on applying this. I know that this is something I will share with my wife and of course my sons as they grow older.
Hope it enriches you too.
Much love,
