Information about my hair, etc...

Since I've been getting so many questions about my hair, I figured I would post the info here in a blog for convenience. Please still feel free to contact me with any specific questions!

Sorry, I'm unsure of the current cost.

I wear vacuum pieces and have been for several years now. They are very comfortable and managable, just like real hair. I style the hair on my head just as I always did before my hair loss. I don't ever swim (never did much anyway), but if I did I would probably wear my hair and braids with a bandana and I think it would be fine. This is how I wear my hair whenever I'm around water, to the gym, or at an amusement park riding thrill rides.

If you are located anywhere near Kentucky, I also recommend The Hair Institute:

Hair Institute
1795 Alysheba Way (in the Hamburg Pavilion)
Lexington, KY 40509
859-263-9811
Website

They have a lot of great hair piece options and products and they style my hair whenever I can't make it up to New York...which is often! Eric & Jeletta Johnson and their team are really great and will work with you to try to give you the most natural look possible. I highly recommend contacting them if you are anywhere near Kentucky!!

I also recently got my eyebrows tattooed in the Cincinnati area:

Kathy Jones Skincare
1881 Dixie Hwy
Suite 300
Ft. Wright, KY 41011
859-426-5100
Website

Kathy was very nice, and I am very happy with the result.

The base is a soft plastic material. It hardens when it's cold and softens when it's hot. Before putting it on, I heat it up with a hair dryer and then it pretty much "sticks" to my head and does not move. Sometimes when I get really hot it will get sweaty and that is the only time it is possible to move it around. So when I go to the gym or something like that, I always put my hair in braids and wear a bandana to keep it in place. 90% of the time it is very comfortable and I don't even notice that something is on my head. The other 10% of the time when it gets sweaty it is only mildly noticable...not ever unbearable at all.

When I get a new piece and get it styled, I have the stylist snip the hairline in the back and at around the sides slightly so that I have little "whispies" like natural hair would be. This allows me to pull my hair up in a ponytail! So yes, it is possible to wear a ponytail...you will just need to get it styled in a way that gives you short pieces (for instance, down to your cheekbone area) so that you will be able to pull them down to cover up your unatural hairline.

How does the back of your vacuum wig look? i desperately miss wearing pony tails, is it possible with vacuum wigs? I currently wear a mono lace top wig and i love it, but getting a new one every 3 months gets old fast, and im worried that one day they will discontinue the style!
