I have (had?) dark hair and very light skin.

My AA patches are many and they are big, so I've taken to shaving my head, but I don't like the look of dark stubble in the places where I do have hair?

Are there tricks to getting a closer shave?

I tried nair once, but ended up with an icky rash, I guess my skin was too sensitive.

Help?

If you go take a look at my pictures on my page it shows the big spots I had before I shaved it. I first used clippers without a guard and then I used a razor with heavy soap to protect my skin from the razor. It's weird...you have to try different things. I have noticed that there are spots on my legs that I don't have to shave but the areas I do have to shave have darker pigment in the hair follicles and I have to make sure the soap is heavier when shaving in those areas.

My husband and I have actually been talking about this lately as I was wondering if he could get a clean enough shave to look like he has no facial hair at all (I was highly impressed by the alopecian men who came to my meeting). The best way to "try" and achieve this would be to take a hot shower to open the pores and then shave it with a straight razor. Of course you can't get that done in any Canadian salon or barber shop so you'd have to do it yourself or (as I do) make sure you use a fresh razor (not a disposable - they cause road rash). Finish off by rinsing with very cold water and you're done! I recommend getting someone else to do this for you, I got lucky that my husband loves shaving my head but it is way easier and the closest feeling you'll get to being in a salon. LOL Good luck! :)

I'm with Carol -- but I go to a barber once a week for the straight razor shave (he's my cousin and he's good so it's cool), and then keep it up with a Gillette Fusion Power razor in the shower every other morning. I have naturally dark hair, and you see my pictures on my profile page, so you can see the results of how close the shave is!!!

P.S. I also use hair conditioner instead of soap or shaving cream. MUCH smoother and the shave lasts longer!
