I have lost about 50 percent of my hair and am thinking about just shaving the rest. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to keep your wig on with no hair?

Hi Teri,

I have just made the scariest choice of shaving my head and wearing a wig. It does stay on 24/7 if you bond the hair on your scalp with tape or glue. You can even get waterproof tape so you can still go skiing/swimming etc. It was a hard choice to make but I know its the only one and at least you can have any hair style you like and your confidence will come back. You can detactch the wig daily, every few days, every week or once a month depending what suits your lifestyle and which tape you use. Hoe this helps, good luck Teri, your not alone.

Teri,
I have had AU for 7 years. I tried the wigs, the hats and not so good at the scarves. If and when you do get tired of all of that, just go natural. Some folks will stare, some will avoid you but you are you. All in all be yourself! Hair is not what defines you! What defines you is what is inside. I had long blonde very straight hair, even had the nickname Barbie, no wig I tried looked right. And with a small head, and they don't seem to make very many "petite" sizes in wigs. So - I just got tired of all of the craziness of getting the right one. I don't consider it giving it up on my vanity, I consider it Being ME! So go for it. All the Best!

While I prefer going "natural" like Anita (above), I have a gel band that works well with my one wig. It doesn't move at all. Very affordable. I say give it a shot. Works well with a bald head. Love yourself, dig yourself on whatever level works.

Thanks for the ideas. I saw the gel band, does the velcro feel ok? I think I may have to wear a wig to work, I work at a bank, but the rest of the time I think natural. We will have to see what my head looks like!! I really think I will feel much better after I shave it off. All I can think about is my hair, Is it windy? is it rainy? I hate that! Thanks for your conversations, it sure makes me feel better!

God I identify! Especially with the wind blowing bit - always a nightmare. Please read my blogs. I JUST shaved what was left of my hair March 5 - so I'm a new "baldie" and I LOVE every bit of it. It is liberating. You will see how beautiful you are when you no longer worry about covering the spots. The gel band does not utilize velcro. The velcro on the wig tab sizing, I guess you have to manipulate that so that you don't feel it, which is what I have done. Truth be told I have not worn my wig much.
