There was an email sent out at work today notifying employees/student assistants that the governor's statewide budget cuts may soon be affecting UCs.

As we learned in Sociology last year, college students are feeling pressured to take on more than they can handle in order to afford education. Working two jobs and attending school full-time is not an ideal situation for most, yet it is becoming more and more of a necessity in order to avoid the trap of loans and skyrocketing interest rates.

So tell me, Mr. Rich Governor Schwarzenegger: How do you propose us college students survive? The cost of tuition is rising constantly, including the insane prices for textbooks and materials. Rent is pricey as well, along with the other bills that need to be paid. Freezing all new hires temporarily is one thing, but eliminating all student assistants would only cause struggling students to fall further into debt.

Fingers crossed that employees across California can hold on just a little bit longer...

That's terrible. I used to have a student aid job and I would give anything to get it back. My tuition just raise 2000 dollars a TERM!! I'll be working nights and attending full time so that my husband and I will be working opposite shifts and we won't need daycare... I completely feel you on this.
