I recently stumbled upon the F****a website, they sounded okay so I sent them an email through their site to find out more information about their wigs. Well, I was contacted by a rep in my city (they are based in the U.S. I am in Canada). She tells me she also has alopecia..yada yada and would like me to try their Gripper wig, tell her what shade and length I would like and she will have some ready for me to try on.

Due to where in the city she was located I commented back that now I know their price range (multi-million dollar condo area).

She responds with, "What price range are you comfortable with. As I mentioned to you I also have alopecia so I can understand not wanting to comprimise quality for price. I have the very best suppliers and if a one time payment is too much you can always go on a payment plan that way you will have what you want and it would be similar as going to a regular hair dresser for app'ts such as cutting, coloring, etc... Just because we have to wear wigs doesn't mean we can't look our best, it's just when we have to pay in full we really feel it. When it comes to wigs the location has nothing to do with the price. We do all kinds of services there. Please get back to me I would love to help."

I then tell her: I have done some asking around and it seems your wigs sell for about $3,000-$4,000 USD. So with the usual 20-30% Canadian markup, that means around $3,600-$5,200 CDN.
I didn't want to spend more than about $500 and do not want to go on a payment plan.
I have never gone to a hairdresser for either cut, style or colouring as I have always done my hair myself so I have no experience with 'regular hair dresser appointments'.
I also will not put it on my credit card nor take out a loan.

Now she writes, "Who said the wigs cost that much. It all depends on the length as I said I deal with different suppliers and have never sold wigs at those prices personally. what exactly are they saying please."

So I try again with:
I will try asking you again;
Then how much does a straight, light blonde, mid-neck length wig cost if not that much?

All she says is, "I'm sorry I was waiting for your reply as to who told you about me. "

The last thing I sent was this:
There were a few people from the U.S. I found while I was surfing the web.
They were from different areas of the country.
The average cost mentioned was about $4,000 USD.
When you buy from Follea, is there a confidentiality/gag clause to sign?
Were they in breach of contract if they discussed their wigs?
I don't want to get anyone in trouble.

It's been two weeks and she hasn't answered.

I'm curious, has anyone ever told you to not disclose the price of their wigs?
Are wig costs that secretive?
Do any other wig sellers act like that?

Ahhh. Finally got that off my chest. I feel better now. :)

My own area wig shops are very competitive, and name each wig with their own names so you can't comparison shop anywhere else. One also charges $25 just to try them on! And these are mostly synthetics! I suppose in this declining economy, the wig business is very competitive for human hair. Recently, there have even been people breaking into beauty supply outlets and stealing just the wigs and weave pieces. If you do not trust them, just shop elsewhere. Most will NOT disclose prices: they want to get you into the shop as a captive audience to do their sales pitches!

The 'gripper' wigs you make reference to DO cost between $3,000 and $52000. Sorry to say you're being jerked around.

Wow !!!! I have a real hair mid length custom wig and it was only $800 . That included styling and cut. It certainly does sound like you are being jerked around. Where in Canada are you, as I am too in Canada and never experienced anything but complete customer service from both places I have gotten wigs. The real hair and synthetic ones.

Hi Brandy Snap. This is Michael from Follea. I am really sorry you couldn't get the information you needed, but I am making sure it won't happen again. I have posted our Gripper information, complete with recommended prices on the Follea website. There is a PDF document that you can view and download at this specific address:

I really appreciate you telling us about this. All the very best to you.
