I was in the Marine Corps when my first spot appeared it was 1994 so than I thought no big deal I will just shave my head and I did for 18 years I got diagnosed with alopecia in the 90s went through the shots and creams etc. I just recently retired and decided it was time for me to look like a civilian but it wasn't that easy my hair at this point is not falling out yet I just don't have much form the result of being shaved everyday, but my beard on the other hand has patches and circles all the way through and around it. But I haven't really cared what people thought of me. I got asked about a month or so ago if I had the mange she was a young girl maybe 20 or so... that's when it hit me that I will always look different than any other 40 year old will yes it will get long enough to cover but I lost a percent of my freedom so know I grow my beard out and wear it proudly for all the world to see not just for me but for all of us. I know what you all are going through my neighbor she has had alopecia for a long time as well and her favorite comment to me is its easy for men cause you all can just shave I guess in a sense she is right but not 100 percent. I think all of you are beautiful and should walk down the middle of your main street and just let everybody see what true beauty is. todays society has it wrong don't buy into the hype but buy stock in who you truly are..Semper Fi

Couldn't agree more. I am a male with AU in fact so to your neighbor's point, I will always look different from other guys that have beards and can shave their heads but you have to just not care what others think.

Hi. I have 100% AU. The process of losing all of my facial hair hair took two years. during that time my face looked really odd....especially when I started losing lashes and eyebrows. everyone's case is different....I hope you get it back. Having no hair is actually easier on me because I don't have to deal with the circles. I had a fantastic cosmetic artist tattoo my brows. I am your age, 42. I have had some form of AA since I was 13. Hey at least I save hundreds a year on hair cuts and razors.
