So a few months ago while reading a passage from a gastroenterology textbook, I came across mention of an association between alopecia areata and Celiac's disease. I have had undiagnosed gastrointestinal issues (primarily chronic abdominal pain episodes) and found this interesting. Does anyone here have GI issues as well? Anyone with confirmed diagnosis of Celiac's disease? I just wondered what the actual prevalence of patients with both conditions was.

In my other readings there is association of alopecia patients with other autoimmune disorders and thyroid issues. Just curious if any of you have other maladies you suffer. I'm really interested in medical cases and would love to hear from you all!

Hi,
My daughter also has AA (she's 2&1/2) and has all sorts of gastro issues since birth. We have just seen a hormone specialist who has advised my daughter to go off all carbs (gluten, potato, rice, corn etc) as he believes she has trouble digesting the sugars they turn into hence causing her tummy pains and digestive issues. She has multiple food intolerances also. He believes this is all related with thyroid as well an another gene he mentioned which she is getting tested for (she had a blood test today... Also looking for other things). He is happy to work n conjunction with the naturopath she is seeing. Today was day 1 on the new diet. I'll let you know how we go. Ps. The specialist told me has helped 99% of his patients with alopecia (who knows how credible that s....very subjective) but I'll keep you posted as to how we go. We are basically now n a paleo-GAPS diet.

Have you ever had your GI issues looked at?
