Hi , my name is Katie and I am new to this site. I hope someone can help me deal with alopecia areata. I had one spot in November, the hair grew back. Now I have 2 spots the size of a half dollar. The dermatologist injected the spots about 5 weeks ago, hair continues to keep falling out of the same spots. Will go back to the dermatologist next Monday.

Hiya Katie. I've had alopecia areata since I was at least 2 so I've had a lot of time to get used to it and work around it. I understand that you might be worried that the hair won't grow back, but it does eventually. And the length of time it takes to grow back varies from time to time. I myself have never gotten injections(I can't stand needles). Is it steroids that the dermatologist is using? I've read that steroids don't work in all cases.
I used Dithranol for about 4 years but it lost all effect after such a long time.
I wear wigs now, but for a while I used hair extensions so cover the bigger patches. They are quite simple to use and not expensive, and if you find the right hair colour, they're almost indistinguishable from your own hair.
I don't know if this helps but please, don't hesitate to ask if you have any queries.

Hi Katie,
I understand!!! I however don't have alopecia, but my husband has AU and my 6 year old has AA. My daughter doesn't realize she has AA. She just knows she had a spot. I don't want her to think that she might end up like her dad with AU. I do agree that stress does bring this on. So, hince the reason for not telling a 6 year old. I am also new to this site. This is my first time on here. I hope all works out for you and I will be praying for you!!!!
