Alopecia Areata magazine "Hoofdzaak" from the Netherlands

AW member Inez edits a beautiful magazine about alopecia areata, and she asked to use my blog post "Coming Out Bald at the Synagogue - What the Bible Says About Baldness", and some photos. I just received a copy of the magazine, and it's beautiful - full of articles and photos about alopecia and alopecians. I sure wish I read Dutch, though. We need a magazine like this in the US! There is also a photo of AW member Karina Louise in this issue. See photos on my page. Thanks, Inez - great work!

Yes, Linda...keep writing to Oprah, folks! It's time she did an article in the magazine, or a segment on her show about AA - and NOT a "make-over" show.

Hi, there is such a magazine in this country, it's published by the National Alopecia Areata Foundation. They put out a newsletter, looks like a magazine, four times a year. Their website is www.naaf.org. They are a great organization and even hold International Conferences once a year. Check them out.

Thanks, Kathy. I know about NAAF, but have not yet been able to attend a conference. I didn't know that they put out this sort of magazine. I'll check it out.

Hi everybody!! I know it's been a long time since I was here...but I am know, YAY me! LOL...I think a magazine dedicated to AA would be pretty cool. I know when I first realized what was actually wrong with me and that there was a name for it, I would have loved to find something I could read like a mag. that would reassure me that I was going to be the same person just without hair. I was so scared and I remember telling everybody that if I lost all of my hair I had nothing. LOL After I did lose all of my hair and had been bald for awhile, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. When I had my first visit with an oncologist, he thought I shaved it off to prepare myself for chemo & radiation. You know, while I was being treated, it seemed like having no hair was more easily accepted by those people I ran into that didn't know me real well. Crazy how life happens, huh?
