I'm 16, have alopecia but cover it with long hair. I need a haircut and don't like my hair, especially because my friends make fun of how long it is. The only people who know I have alopecia are my direct family members. I'm don't like going outside anymore and feel hopeless. I don't know if anyone will even read this, but if you are give me some advice.

Hello! I know how you are feeling. I am 17 and I haven't really discussed my alopecia with any of my friends or many family members. I have been struggling with it for a while now and a few months ago it started to get hard hiding it. If you don't like your hair now or need to hide it, I suggest buying a wig or a topper. You could cut your hair and buy a topper that matches your hair color. That's what I did. My friends didn't notice the difference. If they did, I would just tell them that I got hair extensions. Or what you could also do is to get a full wig. It can be a different color and a shorter length and you could wear it until your hair grows back. However, a topper may be easier and cheaper. I hope this helps!

I'm thinking of just shaving my head and wearing a hat, thanks for the response.
