Alopecians...do NOT boost your immune system!

Several months ago, I decided to start taking Zinc for my Alopecia Areata, thinking it was a good thing to boost my immune system. After probably a couple of weeks on the Zinc, I began to wonder if this was a good thing to do, or not. Well, at this years NAAF conference, what I began to suspect was confirmed. DO NOT take Zinc, or anything else to boost your immune system!!! Your immune system is attacking your hair follicles, thus, boosting your immune system only aids in what is causing your hair to fall out!

THANK YOU NAAF...our doctors don't know the answers!

On the other hand, one may ask...well, do I try to weaken my immune system somehow? The answer to that is NO! Do NOT do this either! When we do this, we are compromising our health in other areas. Our immune systems are our bodies defense against illness and disease..we DON'T want to compromise this to gain back our hair!!!

Also at the conference, I was able to sign up with NAAF's registry, and donate blood for research! I am more than glad to help in any way I can. Children can donate with just a mouth swab! I am thankful to NAAF, their research, and efforts to learn more about this condition! Now all we need to do is spread awareness to others! Alopecia Areata is the most common immune system disorder, and the least recognized! Insurance companies, at least mine, don't help. They don't cover anything to do with Alopecia! We need to educate them. This is WAY MORE than just a physical condition! It is way more than emotional too! I, personally, have had MUCH PAIN associated with my hair loss, redness & itching, discomfort, sores, all on top of the emotional baggage of Alopecia Areata!

Great stuff there Diana -

Heres some other FACTOIDS Ive heard thru the years - Its up to you if ya wanna take then as Fact or Baloney.

1. If your a smoker and ya kick thehabit , your metabolism gets a boost therefore increasing the shedding process during a fallout.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar applied to your scalp promotes regrowth.
(Not only does this stuff make ya stink like a Honey Baked Ham ... it didnt work for me ! )

3. Smokin weed curtails the fallout rate.
( Not sure about that one but HEY - DONT BOGART !! )

4. Alopecia sufferers rarely catch colds or the flu.
( For me , this is exactly correct. No runny nose here . )

5. People with Alopecia like to listen to OZZY OSBOURNE as well as FRANK SINATRA music , drive fast ,
cook incredible home cooked meals , get HAMMERED occasionally and sing in the showah !
( Ok ...ok this item was all about me ... but if you can relate , then jump on board :)

How can we get more information that was learned at the conference? I would love to hear more as we couldn't afford to go.

Thanks!

Yeah, now I'm contemplating on weather to go on another medication period or not... I took medicine to weaken my immune system it did work on my hair, and I haven't seen much negative effect on other parts but my bones did crack a lot. Too bad there are not much information about how to weaken the immune system safely - I mean not too much, but just enough for the hair to grow. I also wonder would donating blood help? Less blood - less white blood cells = more hair? Just wondering... Maybe anyone had had regrowth over donating blood? would they even take blood from alopecian?

Whoohoo for number 5 !!!! LOL
Diana
You found some fabulous info at the conference. Wish that I was there. Im with you on playing around with drugs and treatments that affect our immune systems. Autoimmune diseases definitely need more research to understand their workings.

Thanks for all the input!! I would hope that we could get all of the info from the NAAF website, but I am not really sure Gloria. Robb...u r funny :) Does this mean I will be cooking gormet meals soon? Hubby would sure love that one! Though I have not heard of the Apple Cider Vinegar in reguards to Alopecia, my mom would have us drink cups of 1 tsp. ACV & 1 tsp. honey with a glass of water regularly for the health benefits. It's not very tasty, but I grew to sorta like it as a kid. lol. As for the conference, it was so nice to actually hear from the doctors that really DO know what they were talking about, and have dedicated their lives to research, etc. Hugs to all you beauties!!

You need to buy good quality dietary supplements to boost up your immune system. But a woman needs more than these pills to feel good in her own skin. A facial Norfolk va treatment is a good recommendation for women who want to have a smooth face and improve their appearance.
