Any recommendations for non-allergenic wigs?

I have had allopecia for 40 years now and have worn just about every type of wig there is. For a long time, I wore human hair wigs that were made for me, but then we moved to Hong Kong for a while and they would not withstand the humidity there- and I couldn't learn to do them myself. So I changed to wigs with mono-caps, but synthetic hair. I liked them a lot better because I could maintain them. But a couple of years ago, I found a wig that really gave me a nice new look and I get compliments on it all of the time- so much so that I repurchased the same style when I needed new wigs recently.

However, my ears are driving me crazy. They itch constantly. I have been to a dermatologist who has prescribed a cream for the itch. I have noticed though, that at night, I put the cream on, have no itch in the morning but when I put my wig on, it isn't long before my ears itch again

It dawned on me that my wig might be causing some sort of reaction. (My skin is very thin and sensitive as I have vitiligo as well as alopecia) Perhaps I have become allergic to the wig?

Has anyone run into this problem, and if so, did you find a solution?

Could it be the shampoo you use to wash your wig? Could it need to be washed more frequently? I find I get more itchy when it is time to wash my HH wig. Instead of itchy ears I get an itchy forehead and back of neck and I find using natural products ( no chemicals, no laurel sulphates etc) on my skin have lessened the itch. Interesting enough though I had to go on prednisone for a separate issue and....the itch was GONE so that indicates some inflammatory resonse. It came back slightly again when I stopped steroids. I know how maddening it is so I hope you find a solution!

I'm sorry to say that I don't have an answer.

If you don't wear the wig for an entire day, do your ears itch? Try doing everything else the same and eliminating just the wig for a day to make sure it really is the wig causing the issue.

Have you checked with your wig supplier to see if the hair fiber or the base material has been changed?

Best of luck. I hope you figure it out.
