Any suggestions about starting a support group?

I am thinking of starting an Alopecia support group in my area. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to go about starting one? What materials do I need for the first meeting? How long should the meetings be? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Sharon - You can contact lisa@naaf.org for information about how to start a NAAF support group if you're interested in that. There is a notebook, suggestions and help offered in the way of providing information to your members. There are sample invites, press releases for your local media and meeting topic ideas. Hope this is helpful.

Sharon,

I think we have recently created a support group of sorts. It started about a year ago by reaching out to others here on Alopecia World. I would have to say that I was probably the 3rd or 4th to meet with others that had met maybe once or twice before. At any rate, we have only met "socially". Nothing formal. No agenda. We have met for dinner, drinks, to go bowling, barbeques and even have met several times while someone has had their eyebrows tattoed. I think the last time we had dinner there were maybe 15 of us. Parents of children with au have come, children of parents with au have come. Children with au have come. I think you would be surprised that everyone will have so much to talk about, questions to ask and information to share. I had gone to a more formal type of support group and I don't think that works out nearly as well.
