I have been struggling with AA since I was 14 I just turned 18 in July. Before I went to get shots I shaved my head to a quarter inch so if the shots worked my hair would be about the same length. I've been going to get shots for three months now for AA. I had lost about 80% of my hair, my left eyebrow was 90% gone and my bottom left eyelash was gone. Since the shots I've only really only got one "spot" left on the left side of my head above my ear it seems to be stubborn but looks to have little hairs trying to grow. I'm trying to grow in the right side of my hair line it's trying to fill in as it's not really a "spot". My eyebrow is feeling in it has got white hair all in it and 40% dark hair. My eyelash has only got white hair. On my head there has been a couple of tiny spots appear random but has filled back in within about a week and a half but as fair as the rest of my head I do have some really good thick spots but where I was shot and had regrowth it's pretty thin and is shedding really bad where it's thin(any ideals to help shedding). I feel like I need to eat more healthy as it may be big role for me I think, so if anyone could give me advice about gluten and what that's all about? Or any diet that has been beneficial to you I would be extremely thankful.
Also if any young member would like to text and have someone to bounce ideals off of and just to talk and be there for. I would love to be there for anyone just send me a message and I will shoot you my number/or if that makes you uncomfortable I will give you my email.( I'm 18 so just anyone around that age or still in school that can relate)
Thanks for taking the time to read.
Ryan
I've been having regrowth luck with the shots (started last summer). In May I also started applying monoxidil (2x/day) and have had thick regrowth in most areas, but as these treatments only focus on growth and not stopping the shedding, I still get new patches. Currently there's no treatment to successfully stop the shedding, although some have luck (if only temporarily) with prednisone, which suppresses the immune system (among other things). One doc told me the white regrowth is not unusual and eventually turns back to your normal color. Mine's all been dark, so I can't say from experience if this is true. Also, some worry about the dents the shots make on your scalp, but I was told that the injections temporarily dissolve some of the fat layer, and that those go back to normal over time-- mine have, so the dents don't worry me. My doc suggested an anti-inflammatory diet. You should be able to find some basic info online about that. For me it meant cutting out things I love like sugar, carbs, & booze. :-P I'm learning to love kale, onions and red peppers. Good luck. It's a rollercoaster ride for sure. :-)
