Hi Guys,

Hope you are all well.

I am really really confused. I have been diagnosed with Lichen Planopilaris which results in scarring alopecia. In the past month I’ve lost a lot of hair from my crown area and have been wearing my hair back….sort of like a comb over for a girl.

Before the alopecia got bad I always wore my hair open, I’m scared people will soon start asking the reason as to why I wear my hair up especially at family occasions or nights out. My parents are of Indian origin so I had very beautiful, thick and long hair and everyone would always comment on how beautiful my hair was. I really miss my hair, I miss being able to do what I want with it and I am losing my confidence. I need a wig but only for my crown area for now, don’t get me wrong the rest of my hair is still falling out but the crown is the worst part. I suppose I need a toupee for women. Does anyone know where I could get one?

Anyway I’m trying to look on the bright side and I have been introduced to a lovely dermatologist who has told me not to get a wig because in her opinion I’m quite young and it will stress me out more and could irritate my scalp more. She has recommended that I try something called Toppik, which I ordered today after much research. Has anybody else tried it? Does it actually work?

I would really appreciate any help that anyone could give.

Thanks.

Toppik adheres to the hair fiber and makes each strand thicker - so if you have enough hair it will make it look better. Dermamatch is like a cosmetic for your scalp - it colors your scalp to match your hair color. I used to use a topper made by Ken Paves for jessica Simpson Hair do called human Hair Fringe - it is meant to try out bangs but it works as a topper too - and since it is human hair can be colored if you need a special color. On sale they are less then $200. It is very light weight and used two clips to attach. One note when using Toppik if you can go outside and sprinkle it on because those tiny fibers go EVERYWHERE!. Hugs and good luck

Oh yes Rose I forgot all about Fullmore - my experience was not good - the spray went everywhere and the color was very off.

I also think the dark hairpieces look very real - unfortunately for me I do not look good in dark hair : (

I forgot to add with the the Hair Do piece it can be hard to color as light colors have been very processed already.

Thank you so much for all the advice and help! I've never used anything to hide the hair loss before and there is so much out there.

I have found the Hair Do's on an Englsh site(I am from London) with a 30 day money back garuntee so I may try that.

Unfortunately my hair is not black, its brown and since it is falling out it looks a loy lighter, making it harder to match toppers to it.

I will keep you informed of any progress I have.

Thank you once again.

Hi London Girl, I have a topper wig that I wear daily. I love it. I'm wearing it in my profile picture. I got my wig from C Carlo Hair Express in Pittfield, MA. The sales lady Nancy was so helpful and patient. She got the coloring on my wig so perfect, even my family couldn't tell it was a wig. Please see my other blogs for more details. it's really given me my confidence back (most days).

I use Dermatch, Couvre and Xfusion.
Most days I can just use 1 or 2 products, sometimes all 3.
If you use the Xfusion/Toppik just use some hairspray to keep the flyaways at bay.
I also tried Fullmore. Hated it. So so messy!

I am also of SE Asian origin with dark brown straight hair. Toppik in dark brown has done a great job covering up the AA areas at the top of my scalp. I have found Dermmatch to leave a powdery residue on hair. My hair actually looks dusty with dark brown Derm match. I wash and dry my hair, use Bumble and bumble surf spray to add volume and then use Toppik. I was able to wear my hair down until recently when I started wearing an updo, it helps hide bald spots better. My hair used to be my best feature, I miss the days when I had to keep it short because it was so thick and heavy :(

I find that the shorter I keep my hair the less product(s) I use.

Thank you Fancy1024, JeffreySF & Sam! I really appreciate the feedback!

Sam- I completely understand my hair was my best feature too, its so hard to have an updo as everyone around me always has their hair open and I feel like I'm the odd one out! Hopefully now with toppik and other bits I can wear my hair down too...just gotta wait for it to stop falling out tho :s

Guys- My trial pack of Toppik arrived today & I'm kinda excited to use it. Hope its as good as it seems! Don't want to get my hopes up tho so have to keep reminding myself to think of alternatives in case it doesnt work or look too great on me.
