Hi Guys,

Hope you are all well.

I am really really confused. I have been diagnosed with Lichen Planopilaris which results in scarring alopecia. In the past month I’ve lost a lot of hair from my crown area and have been wearing my hair back….sort of like a comb over for a girl.

Before the alopecia got bad I always wore my hair open, I’m scared people will soon start asking the reason as to why I wear my hair up especially at family occasions or nights out. My parents are of Indian origin so I had very beautiful, thick and long hair and everyone would always comment on how beautiful my hair was. I really miss my hair, I miss being able to do what I want with it and I am losing my confidence. I need a wig but only for my crown area for now, don’t get me wrong the rest of my hair is still falling out but the crown is the worst part. I suppose I need a toupee for women. Does anyone know where I could get one?

Anyway I’m trying to look on the bright side and I have been introduced to a lovely dermatologist who has told me not to get a wig because in her opinion I’m quite young and it will stress me out more and could irritate my scalp more. She has recommended that I try something called Toppik, which I ordered today after much research. Has anybody else tried it? Does it actually work?

I would really appreciate any help that anyone could give.

Thanks.

Hi London Girl, My fingers are crossed for you too. I think you're never too young for a wig! if you feel you need one, then you're old enough. Just remember, don't accept just anything. If you don't love it, try again. You will find one you absolutely love!!! Hugs Di

Hi Di,

I went to see my consultant today and a wig lady. The consultant thinks I'm too young for a wig but my hair is getting worse and I need one. The wig lady is soooo lovely! She has ordered a few pieces in for me to try and so hopefully I will be able to have my hair open again and get a little more confidence again.

Fingers crossed.

Love & hugs xxx

Hi London Girl, I'm sorry the Toppik didn't work out. Keep your chin up. You'll find something that works for you. When you do, you'll love it and it'll be worth the wait. Hugs Di

Hello everyone!

Hope you are all well.

I finally tried the Toppik today & the results are not good :(

Unfortunately when I put it on it didn't cover the bald area as there are no hair follicles for it to stick to, so it ended up clumping together looking weird.

I feel a little sad but its fine I’ve just got to find a topper that works now…..back to the drawing board.

Hellooo everyone!

You are all going to think I have lost the plot but I am scared to leave my hair out incase it keeps falling out on a night out but I really don't want to wear it up in a club...I'll be the only one.

I have a friend who notices little things and I havent actually told her that I'm ill or that I have alopecia. I don't want her to ask me why my hairs up all the time now, especially on a special occasion where I would have it down.

Basically I'm scared of the confrontation with her and of leaving it down...what do I do?

Hi Guys,

Sorry for late reply, its been a longgg week!

Fancy I've not been able to try the Toppik as I've got some spots in my head at the moment, a wonderful side effect (not) of Dermavate that I was usuing for the hairloss! Anyway I'm waiting for that to calm down and then I will try it, so I'll keep u posted.

Rose I have ordered the dark brown and it looks like it will be ok. I live in the UK so the Joan Rivers Great Hair Day isn't as readily avaliable here. I did buy a ponytail by babyliss which I'm quiteeeee excited about also. I can't believe all this stuff is out there!

Thank you Fancy1024, JeffreySF & Sam! I really appreciate the feedback!

Sam- I completely understand my hair was my best feature too, its so hard to have an updo as everyone around me always has their hair open and I feel like I'm the odd one out! Hopefully now with toppik and other bits I can wear my hair down too...just gotta wait for it to stop falling out tho :s

Guys- My trial pack of Toppik arrived today & I'm kinda excited to use it. Hope its as good as it seems! Don't want to get my hopes up tho so have to keep reminding myself to think of alternatives in case it doesnt work or look too great on me.

I find that the shorter I keep my hair the less product(s) I use.
