It gets easier, but the timeline is different for everyone. Some people are more quick to embrace it than others. I was devestated when my hair fell out but now I'm okay with it. It took me 10 years to get there, but I'm one of the slow ones!!! Reaching out to other alopecians helps a lot, like here on this site. Do you have a support group in your area? That really helped me in Denver. I agree with Lynne - write a blog every day and connect with people. Maybe you could try affirmations. Every morning get up and say "I am strong and beautiful and (fill in blanks)" and look at yourself in the mirror when you say it. Little by little, you will start to believe it. Good luck - hope to see you more on the site.

yes...it does. I was really depressed the first yr, now I am fine, 2 yrs later. It depends on how you handle it. You will face some tough situations, but you can't let it stop you from being who you are ; )

It does get easier, I promise. I've lived with alopecia since 5 years of age, my hair came back and fell out again on several occasions and it was hard every time. What you must remember is that you are not alone, there are so many people living with alopecia and we are all here to support eachother. Two of the hardest things to get your head around are that 1. sometimes there is no reason why it happens and 2. that is there is no 'fix it'. Once I got my head around that I realised that actually, my life is great and hair isn't all it's cracked up to be. I appreciate that it takes time to reach that place, but everyone here will do their best to help you through. :)

Yes, it gets better. I agree, though, that everyone's timeline is different. I'm also one of the "slow ones." It took me decades to accept and move on. For years, I felt like the only person in the world who had alopecia. But thanks to the internet and wonderful sites like this one, we can reach out to others like us, and it makes the journey to acceptance far less lonely. :)

Sharon, it DOES get better. Hang in there. I'm close to your age and lost my hair the beginning of 2008. I was very depressed then, and am doing well now. Check out my page for blogs, videos and photos you might find helpful. You're not alone.

All the best,
Mary
