Everyday is a new beginning

I've read just a few of the blogs this morning and it warms my heart. Shaved my head for the first time last night. So little hair left, felt I had to let it go. I've been mourning the loss and yet feeling great relief. I am me, with or without hair. I'm in a 12 Step program that has taught me so much about love and support and now with Alopeica World I have that same support to deal with this disease. I attend my first Alopecia support group this month and I'm very excited about that. This is my first blog on this website...so many firsts for me lately : )

Good luck to you Rose and congratulations on all your progress! Keep it up! It's okay to mourn the loss of your hair--it's part of you that you lost. But I can appreciate your relief too. I wish there was a support group near me. Apparently there was not enough interest.

Hi Rodeli, thanks for your kind words. I was both disappointed and surprised to learn that the nearest support group to me is about 60 miles away. It seems crazy to me that there are not more in my area. I'm in Northern Cal, may I ask where you ? I read a little of your beautiful bio, or profile or quote...whatever you call it and we're about the same age, maybe or I guess we already are being a support to each other ; ).

Congrats on taking back the control away from alopecia. I always say "alopecia may control my hair but it will not control me" its important to grieve the loss as your hair was most certainly a part of you and deserves to mourned. Good luck with all your pursuits and hopefully you find the incredibly strength that I have found from this wonderful site and the people here.

Good for you, Rose! I felt so much better once I shaved off my dwindling hair. I felt in control of my life again, and I haven't looked back. Good luck and stay in touch with all your friends here on AW.
