Eye lubricating gel makes eyelashes grow

As I had no eyelashes or eyebrows my optician advised me to wear my glasses all the time to protect my eyes and also to use a lubricating gel at night and drops during the day. I had been using the gel for a while when I started to grow eye-lashes (now don't get too excited as they are very sparse and thin but they are eyelashes!!). I didn't connect the growth with the eye gel until I read that cosmetic companies are producing mascara with an ingredient in that is also in the gel [apparently (non-alopecian) people who used the gel noticed that their eyelashes were getting thicker and so the cosmetic companies jumped on the bandwaggon].
Well, the gel (called Carbomer Gel and available in all chemists) definitely is the cause of my new eyelashes. They have been growing for nearly a year now and, whilst still sparse and thin, can now support mascara so my eyes don't look so strange any more, although I still apply eyeliner every day.
I just thought I would share this with you all as I didn't even realise that I needed to give my eyes that extra help and protection until I spoke to the optician - the Doctor never mentioned it.

Hello,
I am in the US as well and after reading this I searched the internet. I found this website http://www.pharmacyplace.co.uk/product/tubilux-carbomer-gel-eye-dro...
It's a bit pricey because it's being shipped from the UK, but I think I'm going to try it out anyway. I haven't had eyelashes for about 4 years now and I don't think I will ever be used to it. Even very sparse lashes would be nice (something to keep a little debris out)
Just Google "Carbomer Gel Lubricating Eye Drops" you'll find a bunch of websites.

Hi there - sorry to have caused you so much trouble. The full title is 'Carbomer Gel - Lubricating Eye Drops Sterile Solution'. I've also just read the back of the tube of Carbomer Eye Gel that I'm currently using and the composition is as follows:-
Carbopol 980 0.2% (w/w)
Centrimide 0.01% (w/w)
Disodium Edetate 0.01% (w/w)
Sorbitol 4.0% (w/w)
Sodium Hydroxide 0.084% (w/w)
Distilled Water q.s. to 100g

I'm afraid it doesn't mean a lot to me but it might help. It looks as though Carbomel is just the name of the drops and not an ingredient. Please don't go putting something in your eyes that isn't made for the purpose. It is quite probable that this eye gel is sold under a different name in America.

Thanks for reading the blog. It's good to know we are all here for each other isn't it.

Good Luck, Diana xx

Apprently they are 'Lubricating Eye Drops Sterile Solution' .
