Hiya All! Was just wondering if anyone else out there thought/felt that they had to change their style of clothes after they lost their hair? Just kinda curious, as I know that I did a little - just felt that somethings didnt quite suit the same. Mind you, I was like that when I used to change my hair colour or hair style (maybe it's just me) ha ha. Kirsteen x

Hello Kirsteen! I was pondering the same question. Here's my dilemma--it has a couple of parts. First, when I'm in my bald look, my previous way of being casually attired is not working now. T-shirts and sweats, hair pulled back in a ponytail--now minus the hair I look shabby. Second, the bald look is striking and erotic to some people. I don't want to be too sexy in my attire. Should I go for particular ultra feminine pieces and if so what are those pieces? Third, I haven't shopped because I don't really know which way to go with the second question.
So since there isn't a fashion guide for bald women, you and I will have to do what's comfortable for us. I'll stay posted here for responses.

I do the same as Pat. My necklines are jewel, so high collars don't bump wigs up from the back. No buttons in back to tangle wigs since I once had hairs get pulled out of a long wig by the one dang back button on my ex-favorite blouse!

Hiya Girls!!! It is difficult at times, casual, dressy, sexy clothes (I so know what you mean Galena) - what suits now? Once I find what works for me, i'll let you know. I also accessorize differently. Like you Pat, I like to wear acessories, especially large/dangly earrings that what makes me feel feminine. Keep me posted on how you get on with the fashion dilema and I will too. Take care! K x

Well....this is a hard one for me!
I recently got the freedomwig prosthesis, so I had to shave my head totally bald for it to suction.
Well...I stopped wearing dresses when I became totally bald with (ALOPECIA TOTALIS)
I loved my dresses...Dresses were "MY NAME"
So even though the hair grew back in my later 20s, with cortisone steroid injections...my head just never looked right with coarse, fussy, white pigmented, patchy hair.
"CHECK MY ViDEO/Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, when I had No Hair, & Video with my two daughters having some hair.
My son always said shave it...you will look fresher & younger.
Others would play the "TUG OF WAR" Game.
"DO...DON'T...DO...DON'T...DO NOT...DO!
"WHATEVER...WHATEVER...WHATEVER"
So I haven't felt much like a "REAL WOMAN"
After all...I have been told this numerous times over the many years...that if I put on a wig...I would
"LOOK LIKE A REAL WOMAN"
Then just the other day I mentioned to My Daughter in Law..."I used to wear such lovely dresses", the same as she was wearing.
Her reply to me was!
"YOU CAN STiLL WEAR DRESSES...CAUSE NO ONE iS LOOKING...YOU'RE NOT iN THE MARKET ANYMORE"
Young People, Have No iDEA.
Anyway...to get to the point!
I do "NOT" wear the prosthesis due to the intense summer heat.
It's just slides right off & the sweat drips from underneath down my face.
Also....irritation/sweat...result = eczema.
I get a great deal of Slack, as no one understands my struggles...or condition.
Yet to address the clothing issue...when I received the Prosthesis my daughter said
"NOW YOU WILL LOOK GOOD IN EVERYTHING"
Sometimes, your own kids have no idea, & don't even realize that it can be hurtful.
Yet, that's how they perceive...unintentionally.
Yes...that may very well be the case.
However...I think my attitude is going to "CARRY ME"
I put on earings...and get told..."YOU CAN'T WEAR EARiNGS WiTHOUT HAiR, IT DOESN'T SUiT YOU"
"You Need Hair to Wear Earings".
Constant Battles................nEVeR eNDiNG!
I was so young once, being totally bald...would run, lift weights and had this stunning tan.
Naughty Me!
Yet, never, never wore dresses.
Now my age is creeping up on me...& wish I had felt this "SELF ACCEPTANCE" back then, when I was in my teens, 20s, 30s, & even 40s.
Although...I'm not giving in...I am going to "STRUT MY SWAGGER" Proudly.
STRUT MY STUFF!

Hi Mina! People can be very insensitive and it always affects you more/worse when it comes from family members or very close friends, I get the comments too. I still think we can wear what we used to wear but I think we have to wear them maybe in a more edgier way (if that makes any sense)! I dont like anything to frilly or with ruffles, a sharper/cleaner line suits better I think, then I accessorize. I believe us alopecians suit earrings better - we can show them off so they are seen at there best, just like us - nothing to hide there beauty!!!!!!!

Great discussion topic! I either go bald or wear a scarf, but most of the time, I'm bald. The thing I've noticed is that when I want to wear a scarf, it has to match or at least not conflict with the outfit pattern. So, I end up wearing more solid colors when I want to wear a scarf, as opposed to a print pattern.

But, going bald most of the time, I feel best in dramatic colors like red or black, with big earrings, and sometimes a nice necklace. My "Bald Lady Drumming" photos show one recent look that felt really good. In the other recent drumming photos I was wearing a bright red top, black flowing skirt, and fringed red and black scarf around my waist....I felt exotic and great. I think I'm going more for this kind of look lately.

In general, I'm spending more time thinking about makeup and clothes than I did before losing my hair.

Ditto, thinking more about make-up Mary!
And Mina, are you wearing your dresses again? I hope so, a beautiful dress will always look beautiful on a woman of any age whether she has hair or not I think.
As I don't go out in public bald I don't really have to worry about matching my bald head with my outfit.
I'm a bit concerned about this summer though as I cannot wear my wigs in water as they are synthetic and would probably come off anyway.
I suppose I will just wear a hat.
I looked in heaps of shops a few days ago for funky hats that have good coverage (that I can pull over my ears) and couldn't find any, bar 1 that I decided I didn't like much afterwards.
I like hats because they are easy and fuss free, casual etc, and wigs aren't as casual.

When needed sun protection, a little warmth, or just feeling "fashionable", I often wear a rolled brim hat from a company called Sun Precautions. Here's the link to the page:

I have this hat in red, pink, black and tan, and love it. Very comfortable inside on a bald head. These days, I'm wearing the smallest size with nothing underneath, but I have one in a medium that I wear over a thin scarf when I want more flare.
