Hello everyone, my seven year old daughter was diagnosed with AA on both sides of her temple and nape she is balding. She has long hair so we can cover it with her hair and head bands for now.because Alopecia is unpredictable i do not know if all her hair will eventually come out. But I don't want her to feel like she has to cover her balding spots or her bald head for that matter. She also lost most of her eyebrows and eyelashes.i dont want her to have a low self esteem because of her having no hair. I read alot of blogs and this disease can be devestating to where people just give up on life. To the point of wanting to die So,i decided to go through this with her im going to cut all my thick curly long hair off. I am going bald! Honestly, I am so nervous but what will be will be. I told her we are going to be bald and beautiful! Also, I am looking for parents in the new york area who have children with alopecia I feel that if they see other children with the same thing they would feel better. As of now she is not worrying about her hair it's more so me.my husband and I tell her all the time she is beautiful, smart and perfect the way she is. However, she does care about what the kids at school think I'm currently working on that with her.with that being said please give your advice.another thing I tell her is if all your hair come out mommy is going to hook you up. Don't worry! And she smiles.

You're an amazing mom and you daughter is so lucky to have you! It breaks my heart knowing little ones have to go through this too but showing her she will never be alone is such a beautiful thing.

Well done you! Our daughter is 8 and has also just been diagnosed. As with you, the biggest problem is helping her to cope with the reactions at school. She has signifcant loss at the nape and around her temple on the LHS. We have explained that her hair is hibernating at the moment (like a hedgehog!) and we are trying to wake it up again. We have emphasised that she is not ill and that she is beautiful no matter what her hair is doing! How long has you daughter had loss for? What kind if treatment has she been given? Sending you all our best wishes.

Thanks, I just feel we need to stick together.im changing her diet i see little hairs coming in but its not really substantial enough to get happy about. honestly, i just started the diet this week. however i have her on multivitamins too.I decided to keep her steroid free no injections or cream i feel that it just makes it worse. At least for her Her diet is completely glutin free.no anti inflammatory foods and fish oil let me know if your intrested. Perhaps i will document this experience.by the way if your willing to do penpals that would be awsome!
