Well...It's official, I have decided to shave my head. This decision was made after I noticed my second patch starting last night.
I know that some people would suggest I keep my hair and wait - but I have allowed my hair loss to consume me and my emotions. I still have yet to fully come to terms with this challenge - But honestly, do most people slowly peel off a bandaid that's sitting snuggly on your skin, or do you quickly rip it off? I prefer not to let this AA control me. I don't want to watch my hair have a slow untimely death - why suffer?? If I knew my hair would come back soon, I'd keep it - but the uncertainty about it all is the worst part.
I'm rather excited about taking this by the "b*lls" and moving forward. Anyone have any suggestions as to what kind of wig is good, and what I should stay away from?
I still want the option to put my hair (wig) up...if they even make those. And I don't want something that will fly off into somebody's drink when I'm out shaking my stuff..lol. Any ideas?
I feel relieved now that I have decided to do this - I feel like i've been constipated for a month...but now I can breath. Sorry for saying that..but I really didn't know what else to compare it to..
Have a great day!!

Hey Christie
Thanks for the laugh!! I would have to agree that, from what I've noticed, people seem to be relived by shaving their heads. It's kind of like a rite of passage for alopecians, out with the old and in with the new. The question is not why suffer though, the fact is that there is suffering and once you accept that even you can suffer you can move on, it's all part of an awakening process. You have the right idea about moving on though. As for wigs, don't go to Josef's, way over priced and the guy's sure this shampoo will cure what ails ya! I made the mistake of inviting him to a meeting and he gave a member false hopes - grrrr! If you're interested in getting a wig online I can send you a link to one of alopecia world's members who has some great deals! As for the type of wig, hopefully someone else can help with that cause I haven't worn a wig much since 2001 and they've come out with so many new kinds since then. Good luck, keep us posted!

Hi Carol, I don't wear wigs anymore, but I know from past experience that human hair works best. Synthetic starts looking weird on the ends in a matter of months and you're right back at square one, which can be expensive. I used to buy a bunch of synthetic wigs but they were not everyday looks, check out my page and read wigology 101! Good luck and welcome to the Sisterhood of Shaved Heads!

I owned a human hair wig once when I was much younger. I remember my mom paid an incredible amount of money for it and it didn't last any longer that any of my synthetic wigs ever lasted. But, like I said, I was a kid then and it's very possible I was a lot rougher with it than an adult might be. I did enjoy the freedom to curl and style my hair with it though however I've learned to do that with synthetics as well since then. You can get some nice synthetics for a great price which would allow you to have more and switch them up if you wanted. Still a toss up for me.
