Well, Chandler's hair grew in for about 1/2 a year and then it all came out, now the eyebrows and eyelashes came out with it! Chandler has accepted it and does not want to try any more creams, lotions, pills, etc. She says she is used to being bald and can't remember even having her long hair! She has a great wig and no one has seemed to notice that it is a wig or if they do they have not said anything. One thing that is noticeable is her missing eyelashes and eyebrows. Kids notice that right away. Chandler is getting used to that now. Her dad and I are sticking by whatever decision she makes and we are not pressuring her to "fix" her hair loss. We enjoy her bald head and think she looks really beautiful bald. I will have to take a picture and post it, she has not been that brave yet!

I think the greatest service a parent can do is to allow the child a choice in this. I sort of felt like a helpless guinea pig during all the attempts for a cure my parents took me with various doctors...especially the shots, pills, and even a one-week stay at a hospital (with all kinds of questions and tests to see if shots in the hip were affecting female issues). How much freer I felt at college, away from all that and using my free time for fun activities, instead of doctor visits. Girls just wanna have fun, sometimes!

I'm so proud of Chandler. I thought my life was over. Lol. I hadn't realized how much more I would have to endure. I didn't understand alopecia that much and neither did my parents. If I had known and understood the disease it may have helped me to cope a lot easier. By sticking by her and giving her a choice, she has control of the situation. I agree to let her be herself, it makes the coping process a lot easier :-).
