Has anyone ever been kicked out of a place for hiding your head by wearing a head covering?

I have been wearing a nice beanie to cover my AA patches in between shaves.

I don't go out in public with a wig though I've been seriously considering 1 lately.

I just cover my head outside.

I was kicked out of a courtroom today because I would not remove my head covering in front of a room full of strangers.

I was mandated to "take it off or go pay the fine for the ticket". They wouldn't even grant me an audience with the solicitor in the hall way.

I paid the $500 ticket without ever seeing the judge even though I had valid proof for it to be reduced.

I cried for several minutes in the car. I blamed myself for not buying a wig and making things more acceptable for everyone else around me.

I hated them all for having hair and taking it for granted.

I felt a little less than human for not being able to stand up for my rights in court like everyone else because I didn't want to expose my disease on their time.

Today was not a good day to have alopecia.

Unacceptable. I went to take a board exam and they tried to tell me I wasn't allowed to wear the band I had tied around my hairpiece inside the testing room. I told her in a low voice why I needed it and they let it go. Thing is... all this shit we deal with, would they do that to chemo patients? NO. They get to keep their dignity, people just think hair loss is whatever. I say, "well then shave your head and get back to me." I'm sorry you had to deal with that, it sucks. I say lodge a complaint.

<3 That is cruel and unjust. I can't believe it was in a courtroom of all places. We are with you, and you are not your alopecia. You are a good looking young man with a good head on his shoulders. :o)

I had a lot of problems with wearing a beanie to school. The teachers couldn't understand why i have to wear it . I bought a wig and i'm wearing it for two weeks now , it's better but still i can't get use to it . Don't remember a day when i was happy , alopecia took everything i liked about myself .

I've learned to tell these people "I don't have any hair."   "I can't take off my scarf."

They do this too when you get your driver's license picture taken.  What I did last time for this was wear a vanity wig.

Even with a fall wig which is cheap and can be comfortable for hours on end, they sometimes ask you to take the head bank off.

In all cases like this, I have learned to be blunt with them rather than being reduced into  a flunky.

They wouldn't do that to chemo patients, and they shouldn't have done that to you. They are asking to be sued, actually.

I'm sorry you had to go through that, it sucks. I agree with Pamela Rosse, write that letter.

Hi Deejay,

It seems to me that you should have been informed in some way that hats or any headgear for that matter are not allowed in court. I'm a teacher and I don't tolerate wigs and in France, it is not allowed to wear a scarf to cover your head because of the principle of secularism. But at least, it didn't come as a surprise as I had been warned beforehand.

The enforcement of some laws and rules are really silly and absurd and some people just enforce them without considering some cases to which these laws may not apply. I was required to buy and wear a swim cap to go to the local swimming pool and when I replied that I had no hair - not that it be obvious - I was told that they weren't going to check every swimmer's hair.

It is a shame though that they didn't let you defend your case and you most certainly shouldn't have to buy a wig to do so. I wish you all the best.

Maud
