Has anyone taken prednisone and kept their new hair growth?

Im new to this site.. I have been diagnosed with alopecia for 4 months now.  my whole side of my head is bald.  I went thru a very stressful event in my life in November.  Don't know for sure it that what caused it.  My doctor put me on drithrocream.  Didn't do anything,  Now starting yesterday I am on prednisone.  Sounds like it will work while you take it but fall out again.  Has anyone taken it and kept their new hair growth?

I have been on it for 3 months now and no difference. I have losing hair at the root now for months I show all the signs of Hypothyroid problems and I have 2 physicians that say I am border line Hypothyroid and need to be on medication yet  after there days of taking that on the third day my hair started falling out and has not stoped since. as a matter a fact it has got worse. Upon my visit may of last year I had no hair loss the synthroid started it and the pharmacist said that that is the number one drug that will cause yoru hair to fall out and  also Amour Thyroid medication. Anyway I was out on the Progesterone and Estrogen and Aldactone and no change. I have been on 20 thousand Mg of Biotin, Folic Acid, B-12, Prenatal vitamans I also use Nioxin shampoo and nothing is slowing it up. Also this does not run in my family. I have been on all this since may od last year and now im in a state of panic because my hair is so thin and im showing bald spots I do not know where to turn. So in other words nothing is working. I know I am going to have to get a wig soon I do not know where to begin I need someone to give me advice because I need something that looks natural and that will fit over my head with hair on it that will not fall off and that is not hot and will last. I am new to this site as of today. So I am seeking help as well I need advice badly. Whoever reads this please contact me with much needed advice thank you.

Hello - I took Prednisone for many many months during my first major hair loss.  I never noticed any change in my hair loss and eventually all of my hair fell out.  I personally would never take that drug again...it made me incredibly moody, depressed, constantly negative, mean, a roller coaster of emotions.  Now that being said all these drugs and lotions and natural remedies we use affect us all so differently.  But I wanted to share with you how that one affected me in case you have any similar feelings. Stay strong.

Thank you for responding I was getting steroid injections in my Sac joints on and off for the last 9 years until Fed of last year then may of last year my hair started falling out slowly and as of Dec 2013 it startd falling out at alarming rates today is Apr 8, 2014 my hair is very thin receding back to my ears and starting to show bald spots at the top of my head. I have had Thyroid checked Pituitary checked and Parathyroid checked and now all test show normal. SO I was refered to a high profile Dermotologist  in Atlanta they did a scalp biopsy last week I have to wait 2 more weeks for the results to get back. I see myself going bald and I am having a hard time accepting it. I am already not wanting to leave the house im so embarrassed . Next week once I get my stiches out I am going to find a wig I have no choice and I have no idea what kind to get, I want something that looks natural yet I do not have 2000.00 dollars to pay for one so I am at a loss as to what kind to get. I hope and pray my hair will grow back I am just sick and especially now that the doctors are at a loss. I will be going to the mayo Clinic for further testing. What is strange is I have every symptom of thyroid issues yet my Thyroid is normal. This is blowing my mind. Im just not handling this well at all.

Hi,
Like Dee I was borderline hypothyroid and started taking Synthroid, 6 months later (Dec'13) I was shaving off the last bits of hair. I have since stopped taking Synthroid three months ago and there's some peach fuzz growing in. A few years ago I had bald patches and had the steroid injections, worked for me for two years but Synthroid seems to have turned it on again. Here's to hoping my hair is coming back.

So Vicki are you telling me that Synthroid is helping you grow hair now?

No, I believe it is the Synthroid that partly caused my rapid hair loss.
