I was going to post this on the discussion board, but decided to post here instead. I've decided to try a headband-style wig as an alternative to a hat. Problem is, I'm in Asia (where the chances of finding a non-costume blonde wig are not very good) and my friend in the US is going to send it to me- so I have to choose one just from online pictures.

I'm kind of torn between the Paris Hilton headband fall ($20 on sale, synthetic hair) and a Put On Pieces headband fall ($150 on sale, human hair). Both are long, 18"-22". Even if my hair would miraculously stop falling out and growing back today, I would still need to use the headband for some time yet since my bald spot is right on my crown. So I would like to get something that would last me a while and, of course, look natural. I just am hesitant to spend $150 on something I have never seen or comparison shopped for in real life when I'm not even sure I'll like it.

Is there a big difference (aesthetic, wear and tear, otherwise) between human hair and synthetic? How long can I expect it to last? I've never even seen a headband wig before, so any information/suggestions/pointers at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much in advance. :)

Nari,

My first bald spot started on the crown of my head and has just moved everywhere, so I decided to try the headband wigs. I bought the Paris Hilton, and I like it but I dont. I mean it definitely doesnt look 100% real, but its nice. But I guess either I have a large head, or its made for girls with small heads, because it doesnt fit me real well. I did buy some hair on clips, I guess they are clip-in extensions, and those work REALLY good for me. Even with the hair loss being so drastic on the crown of my head, I can still get it to clip in and pull some hair from the side over to cover the clip, and it blends in REALLY well. Nobody can even notice it. My next purchase is going to be the Jessica Simpson human hair fringe. Its basically bangs you can style anyway, but you can clip it on to the crown of your head. You might want to check that one out, its pretty awesome. I hope this is SOME kind of help for you! Good luck!

Tamara: Thank you for your advice! On your suggestion, I added a bunch of the clip-in extensions as well. The clips I got are pretty small but I'm hoping I can strategically place them on my head, or something- I decided to err on the side of buying more products rather than less since I have to have them shipped internationally, and I am hoping at least a couple things will work out. I saw the Jessica Simpson fringe too just now, and I can see what you mean- it probably would look like layers if clipped on backwards. What I really want from JS is that $500 volume booster piece that's worn on the crown... but the best price I can find it is $375, and I'm not sure if I want to spend that much yet...

Tanya: Thank you for posting! All the things I've selected are natural so far. I'm kind of worried because I read the reviews and some people compared the natural hair to a horse's tail after washing (yikes).... but I'm hoping it will be okay as long as I take decent care of it.

This is like a whole new world that I never really wanted to explore... so many confusing options.... well, I learned today that a lace wig isn't really made of lace. *sigh* Now I'm wondering if the pieces will be scratchy on my bald spots...
