Hormones, Chronic Fatigue, PCOS and Alopecia

About 6 months ago I was diagnosed with PCOS - Polycystic ovary syndrome.  About three and a half years before that I started losing my hair in patches and it resulted in total loss all over my head.  This happened twice within one year.  Prior to that I went off birth control and was hospitalized for a terrible staph infection.  All my life I have suffered from Chronic Fatigue which was flaring up during my alopecia outbreaks.

Since then I am happy to report and very grateful to report that my hair is back.  I have yet to cut it and plan to donate my first cut to Wigs for Kids - a group that provides wigs for people with all types of hair loss.  (Sorry for the side bar)

Since the regrowth of my hair I have been soul searching and trying to identify what happened to prevent triggers in the future.  My doctors all think that I would have suffered from hair loss much sooner if I had not been on birth control and that the sudden decrease in hormones triggered the hair loss and exacerbated the effects of the PCOS.

I would love to know if anyone else has had this experience or if anyone knows about these diagnosis being connected.  Additionally, anyone in the Washington, DC area have recommendations on good doctors who help with hormones, hair and skin issues?

Thanks!
