Can you wear a bandanna? Or are all types of head coverings off limits? Oy, I'm so sorry about this. Okay, let's see how we can help. First of all, nobody in the hospital will care. That's for sure. They've seen worse, and they need the education anyway. So that's not the problem, or it shouldn't be. That's one thing you can let go for sure. The other thing is visitors. Which gives you a couple options. 1) You can tell people they can't come. Of course, I'm sure they'd all be supportive and helpful, but if you're that uncomfortable, that's an option. 2) Is the no-wig rule only for the surgery? Maybe you could put on the wig, or a little fleece hat, or a bandanna, AFTER surgery. That way people can come see you AFTER and you'll be comfortable. Not sure if that's "allowed" or not. 3) You can use this surgery as an opportunity to let go of your crutch one day. Not easy, I've never done it myself, but I understand that it can be empowering. Look at Bald Girls Do Lunch. Look at the National Bald Out Day. It takes a lot of strength, but I'm sure you could do it. Think about it, and let us know what you decide. We're all behind you, no matter which way you go.

Take a deep breath and relax.....
They will put a surgical bonnet on your head for starters, That is of course if your not having brain surgery. If that's the case they would shave you head or at least part of it and nothing matters anyway....
Next you will get an IV line placed and some sedation to relax you.

I have worked in hospitals for over 25 years and you should expect and recieve a professional healing and caring enviornment.
Wear your wig or scarf until the time comes and then tell the nurse about your condition and go from there.
I think you are going to be just fine.

When I had surgery, I kept my wig and a small mirror with my makeup in a bag in the nightstand to prepare for visitors, and made sure the staff knew I wanted a heads-up of half-an-hour before anyone was allowed in. And yes, there are those surgical caps. Stunning.
