How do you explain alopecia to a 3yr old?

My daughter is 3yrs old and she has AT, recently she started putting pants on her head pretending its hair and she's telling me that she wants hair- what should I tell her and what is the best way to approach this? I've always told her that some kids have hair and some don't and would show her pictures and videos of kids with Alopecia. I need advice! Help me..

Hi Rose, thank you for your input- she started pre school about a month now, I'm guessing because she is around other kids she is starting to be conscious about it.. (She's always home with me and never went to daycare)that is the only reason I can think of.. I really feel bad I wish I can do something for her:(

Can you maybe take her to a store with some fun hats and let her pick some out? Idk. Kids can be cruel and Its best I think at Least that she be given the option of covering if and only if this is what will make her feel more comfortable. How bout some colorful hair(wigs). I guess let her know she has options and can have fun with it.

My 8 year old daughter has AA , she was diagnosed at 5 years old . The first year was very hard for her and our family . But , in the course of that year I found a seamstress that created hats or my daughter . She took one of her school dresses and made a hat from it . People are cruel and my daughter is terrified of wearing her head out , but the hats are great . The hats have boasted her self esteem . She still has tough times but at least she can look forward to nice hats . I'm currently looking for play groups or outings for my daughter as well support groups our family can join . Make songs and poems just for her , I do this or my daughter it helps a lot . I joined this site because last night she had a really tough time . If I come up with anything else ill post it for you .
