Hi everyone,
This is my first time blogging. I just want to thank everyone for their kind comments towards my daughter. I just want to retell a conversation we had earlier regarding her alopecia. Amanda is 7 and has had AA since she was 4. She is never frustrated or disappointed by it. She just knows it has been a part of her life for the past 3 yrs. Well she celebrated her birthday a few days ago and when it came down for her to make a wish before blowing out her candles she didnt wish for her alopecia to go away like she always does. I asked her why she didnt mention it and she said that she wanted to keep her bald spots because she feels special with them. It brought a tear to my eye and I told her she was special no matter what. It just went on to teach me that it all boils down to how you feel about yourself and how you make the most of it. We are happy to have found Alopecia World when we needed it the most. She enjoys looking at everyones pics on their site and now feels good about her own hair. She knows she is not the only one. Thanks for listening.

How AMAZING!! Abria was only diagnosed about 4 or 5 months ago. She has always had this bright personality. People notice HER before they notice what she looks like. Her hair has begun to grow back, but as you can see in my profile picture she wore this hat at Christmas time to cover this really large bald spot in the front of her hair. Our children show us so much with how they deal with things. She has never complained, she just educates her friends about it and she isn't made fun of. The strength our children have really takes me by surprise sometimes. How did we all get so lucky? .....Aprille

Thanks for adding me. I am new to Alopecia World.

You are beautiful little girl no matter what!! I have learned to accept alopecia & that this is how God made me. I do a very good job hiding mine. I started about 1 year ago getting steroid injections every 4 weeks and my hair has came in really good but as we all know, that is a very painful thing to have a needle pricked in your head about 50 times. Each time I go back, my dr. gets just as excited if not more than I do to see how much progress my hair has made which makes me happy that she cares that much about me!

You know what Amanda, I'm new on this site and after my first positive comment on my picture with a wig on I felt so much better. And thought; oke there are more girls and woman like me and they all look very nice and beautifull so maybe its not so bad at all. Well, maybe not as beautifull as you, but that's because you are beautifull on the inside and outside!
Thank you for being my friend here (and say hi to youre mom) :) Sabina

Your story brought tears to my eyes! What a special young lady indeed. I am so impressed by her and her outlook with her hair loss. If ONLY I had half her strength!

As a support group leader, I hear all kinds of stories from parents of children with alopecia, some positive and some very sad. Your's is a wonderful example of how loving and supportive parents can help their children feel good about themselves and learn not to define themselves by the loss of their hair. Amanda is an amazing and beautiful little girl. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing her story.
