Shane, if there is one thing I've learned about alopecia through my research with other women it is how incredibly fickle and unpredictable it is. We are never 'cured,' just confused. I sometimes grow a couple of hairs back in the winter time in odd places on my scalp or face or ears that drop off again without rhyme nor reason. So, when I see them coming (not for a couple of years now) I shave them off. I much prefer the total bald look to the mostly bald look. 

I found peace when I stopped believing a few new hairs meant I was done with alopecia and it would all come back and stay back. Getting to that place, however, is a process not an event. It takes whatever time it takes to grieve the loss of something so intrinsic to our self perception. And acceptance of the life long merry-go-round of alopecia comes to different people at different times and different ways. Some people choose to never accept it or, for whatever reason, are unable to accept alopecia as the life long companion it is. I worked through the grief and came to acceptance quickly because I didn't want to keep hurting over and over again for the same thing. But that's me - a really low tolerance for pain, physical or emotional, and a big fan of letting go of things I can't change. Everyone is different, in different circumstances, with different tolerances, and different methods of coping.

You'll find your way, Shane. This is a good place to take a look at the route others are taking and see if anything resonates with you. This is a good place to let it out when you're having a tough day. And those who tell you you're not alone are right...you are not alone.

Steph You have important things to say and should continue. A misunderstanding is no reason to stop. I sometimes get understood because I didn't express it the way I meant it, and I have made a few people upset. I just explain and say I am sorry and move on.. So we are good and please continue to participate.

ugh!  i really want to believe that when my scalp itches, that i will have a great big voluminous head of hair when i awaken.  I even used to have dreams about having this gigantic curly afro, or a long, flowing mane. 

I definitely remember before the repeating hair fallout, my scalp would itch like crazy.. but then again, it would also itch that way when my hair started growing back in again.

I don't know what to think anymore, but whenever my SO sees me scratching my scalp, he gently taps my hand and says "Okay, stop!"  He's an alopecia sufferer as well.  He gives me the old gypsy-esque stare and says in an apocryphal voice: "My scalp used to itch like that too, before all my hair fell out.."  I expect him to hiss, spit and give me the evil eye whenever this happens.

So far, the REST of my hair has grown thicker, (thanks to Megatek been using it for about 2 years. They used to use it on horses, but folks are finding out it's just a protein conditioner), but those stubborn bald spots.. the Right temple, crown and nape take their dear sweet time growing in, if at all.

I've also noticed this itching with Minoxidil for the last 2 months - but certainly not in the place where it SHOULD be working.  The minoxidil spreads out from the target areas, and get this, the hair that is not affected with alopecia - grows more with the Minoxidil while the affected areas are pretty much the same.

If your hairs going to fall out it, it will.  There are just some days i can't tell if it itches because the Megatek and Minoxidil are working, or if i'm getting ready for another "let down"..

I have lost and regrew my hair 3 times and am now going through the loss again. I also have several Autoimmune diseases besides Alopecia and they come and go too.  I have not been to Derm to get treatment but will go soon to see if I also have scarring alopecia. Yea losing hair will happen off and on probably forever. I use Minoidil also and it works most the time but can take along time and doesn't stop the hair loss forever its a treatment not a cure. There is no cure so far.
