International Alopecia Day 2012 - Saturday, August 4!

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ON INTERNATIONAL ALOPECIA DAY THIS YEAR?

A small get-together with friends? Lunch? Picnic in the park? Walk/run? Info table at a mall? Party? Check out the previous years' videos for ideas. Plan something small or large.

It's our day to raise public awareness and celebrate with friends. For those of you who've been wanting to try going out in public bald for the first time, THIS is the perfect day!

Be a part of this year's YouTube video slideshow by taking photos of yourself and your friends on August 4 to send to me later. It's BEST if you hold up a sign (can be handwritten) that says your city/location and "International Alopecia Day 2012".

Join the International Alopecia Day Group on AlopeciaWorld and/or Facebook, and post a blog about YOUR location and plans.

Please share this with your Alopecian friends around the U.S. AND all over the world - the more countries we have represented, the better! Local newspapers and TV will report about this event if we can list a number of cities and countries taking part - it BECOMES news, and helps us get the word out about Alopecia Areata.

See you OUT there!

Hi everybody. I've been waiting on a few photos from other people, and I've decided I need to go ahead and make the video so we can all see it. I will post when it's on YouTube.

Hi Hosein,

My photo expert tells me that if the photo is a horizontal, it should be 1024 pixels in the horizontal dimension, and if it's vertical, it should be 768 pixels. I hope this makes sense to you...I'm not very good with these technical details. I'd like most to use the photos you entitled "365" and "abbas". Hope this helps.

Hi Hosein,

I just checked my gmail mailbox, and I don't see any new email from you. It looks like you may have misspelled the address - you left out the "al" at the begining of "alopecia". Please try again: internationalalopeciaday@agmail.com

Or, you can also try sending it with a message to me on alopeciaWorld.

I just put this year's video slide show on YouTube (also submitted to Alopecia World). Here's the YouTube link:

Thank you to all who participated. Let's make 2013 even bigger. We had some new countries and cities represented this year, and the media will start to take notice.

I was very happy that Joanna Rowsell, Gold Medalist, consented to my inclusion of her photo. She celebrated IAD in the most amazing way!

Dear mary

thank your for your attentions and your good clip. but i am not satisfied because i had sent you 3 pictures. I and Abbas (that you use of our picture) and another person (Elahe) a girl with the Iran flag. (even i remember you told me she is lovely). i cant see her picture in your clip.

Hi Hosein. I am sorry, but the video is finished and already on YouTube, and I can't add any more pictures to it for this year.

I included the two photos of you and Abbas that you sent me the bigger files for. I thought you knew that I was not going to use the picture of Elahe with the flag design since you only sent me the large files of the other two photos. I thought that I had sent you a message earlier about why I wasn't going to use the picture of Elahe, but I will explain why I didn't use that one.

The idea behind this video slide show is for the photos to have been actually taken on International Alopecia Day. I also included a few photos that were not taken on International Alopecia Day, but looked like the same kind of casual snapshots that could have been taken that day (such as the photos of you and Abbas). I did this so that we could have more locations represented.

The photo of Elahe with the flag design around her face didn't fit with the other photos. I have used photos of people posing with their flag on International Alopecia Day to show where they are. But the picture of Elahe was a combined picture that used her face in the center of a design with the flag. So, it didn't look like a "snapshot" that could have been taken on International Alopecia Day.

If you want to take a picture on the next International Alopecia Day (August 3, 2013) that shows you holding an Iranian flag, I'd be happy to include that. Everybody is welcome to hold their flag. It's also good if people make a sign (which can be in their language) that says "International Alopecia Day 2013".

I hope this explanation is clear, and I look forward to having you participate on behalf of Iran next year!

Mary
