My daughter started going through alopecia in July 2010. As soon as this started happening to her, Grandma put her on mega kid vitamins. Her hair was growing back but still falling out. It was slowly growing even at that. But we had no idea what this was. Took her to the Dr. and they told us there's no cure. Anyways. I found out her Iron was low so i put her on Iron and vitamin c. Her iron is normal now but thinking I might check again to see if i can make it higher normal range. She was anemic and I found out I was also anemic since a child.
So by December 2010 All of her hair on her head fell out and her eyelashes and eyebrows were falling too but not completely. They were also growing in blonde, she is a brunette.
I took her to the Derm and they put her on steroid injections. After the first injection it was evident that they helped, so we did the next two and the same thing happened. More hair growth at a faster rate. I didnt notice any side effects other than a little weight gain. So I have to say so far im happy she did the injections. At her age going to school and everything is very hard kids can be mean. But to my surprise she is brave, she's had her share of tears but more than anything she is a Brave child.
So besides the injections I have kept her on multivitamins different kinds, vitamin c and biotin. Lately I had her take Omegas and skin hair and nails mix. MSM in particular. Her last injection was in February and she is still having hair growth at a nice growth rate. Another thing I did was have her use organic shampoo and conditioner. Now for about a month she's been using a hair growth shampoo called - Peter Lamas Chinese herbs. Her hair right now is boy short. We are really happy about the way it grew back in. She is getting her confidence back. She's much happier and her happines makes me happy!!.
Just thought I'd share my story.

Oh I also wanted to say her nails have improved dramatically as well. They are healthier and stronger looking too. I know that has to do with the vitamins, cause her nails have always looked brittle and weak. I just didnt know anything about this and am trying my hardest to understand and never give up. I will never give up on finding out whats going on with her body, and am going to help her get as healthy as I can.

Thank you Larista, So far my daughter hasnt had any problems with the steroids. But yes if it is an ongoing thing with her I would not continue the use of them. I remind my sweetheart that she is beautiful no matter what. Thanks everyones opinons and thoughts are always welcomed. We are all facing the same questions and answers here. I wish you luck on your journey Larista.
