It seems like every year I go through this. I'm always looking for a new look, however, it never seems to happen because I'm too scared of the fact that I have absolutely no hair on in my temporal regions, and I barely have any hair on my nape. My friends always ask why I always have the same hairstyle. Or whenever we hang out they always touch each others hair, and I never let anyone touch mine. It's really embarrassing, because I get so defensive. -sighs- With the way things are now, I'm thinking about just shaving it. It's too much work hiding it.
So funny. I CAN only have ONE hairstyle!! Also, no hair on the nape, and overall thinning every where else. There is no NEW look for me. Well, sorry, I take that back. Wigs are the NEW look, when I decide to go out in one, and never to work. But you know as I do, it is HOT where we live in the South. Wigs are hot. You are lucky being AA because your wigs are so plentiful and not costly. So many options. I have baby fine blonde hair, they just don't make that kind of hair in a wig HH. So it would have to be synthetic, and they don't make a blonde color to match my bio hair. So it sucks!!!
I know exactly what you mean, it's always hot in the south, and in Louisiana with all of this humidity. I'd go crazy with a wig.
Oh, I could go out in the evening after dark with a wig...to someplace with a/c up high, I could go out to the car provided the a/c is blasting, but I would fear going around in the blistering sun and humidity wearing a wig, with the sweat probably dripping from inside of the wig. Nice visual. Not to mention, ruining the wig. Like they are not costly enough, and don't last very long anyway, let's just cut their life span in half by sweating in them, so we have to wash them daily. There seemingly is no answers to the dilemma. I hear people get used to wearing them even in the heat, but how can you stop the sweating underneath? I hate going around running errands in a baseball cap, I look horrible. But what am I to do? I sweat under the hat as well. !!!!
Hello Alex and Lexi,
I just was just browsing blogs when I came across this one...my hair loss is concentrated at the nape and it goes up on each side of my head by the back of my ears. I wanted to ask, have you ever considered lace wigs? This is what I wear and a large majority of the time people can't even tell that it's not my hair...they are very lightweight since they are made of a mesh like lace and human hair. I live in the south as well and I don't have a problem wearing it in the summer what so ever...
And to get the color blonde I would need would cost a small fortune. I would love to be able to afford but can't. I would need European HH and that is costly. Where do you get your wigs, MJ?
I have ordered direct from Chinese vendors as well as using Allaboutmyhair.com, RPGshow.com., Owigs.com, Fridaynighthair.com, and a few other sites I can't recall the name on. Since I wear wigs daily, I do spend a bit more on the hair I wear. I consider it an investment though & I take VERY good care of my "girls". I have some wigs that Ive owned since 2008!
RPGshow has been one of the most accommodating companies Ive worked with thus far; I was sent a unit that I wasn't happy with and I was able to send it back and exchange it for one that suited me better. The other companies and vendors have worked well for me as well since I customized my units.
Lexi, you could get a unit lovely unit in blond...it will be kind of expensive, but well worth it...try this site sales.rpgshow.com. They are the same wigs that are on the standard rpgshow site but I believe you can only get the length up to 16inches..I hope this helps!
Thanks, MJ. If you have a wig since 2008 and it is still wearable, then it was well worth the cost. Synthetics don't last or so I hear. I will check out the site. And yes, I also would take very good care of that kind of investment. You should post some pictures on your page of your wigs. Would love to see them.
Synthetics will usually last me about a month, maybe 2 with gentle use; and these days I only wear them(synthetics) when I want to try out a new style, a different length, or if I'm going to be doing something active and I don't want to worry about ruining one of my good units. There are some good synthetics out there though...if you get one I would suggest getting one made of Futura fiber hair...I also hear that they've introduced something called "Femi" or "Fake Remi" hair that is good. You can apply up to 400 degrees of heat to those types..(i.e. curl or straighten it like real hair) Great suggestion Lexi about posting pics of my girls...I will do that soon!
I've also learned to make my own wigs...(thanks YouTube)! It's not hard at all....
I Googled Femi, but all I come up with is AA hair. So much hair for AA women. So many different types, and not costly.
