Yep, I'm a bald and I love it! I don't feel like I'm hiding some secret any longer. Well...with hairloss I wasn't really hiding anything, I was ignoring a problem that was right in front of my face in hopes that nobody would notice. Anyway, I digress. I am bald, I am happy about it. I still wear a wig to work and church. I am afraid that it would be career suicide at work, I work in management so I think I'll keep on wearing the wig there. At home I am a free bald bird. I haven't been "out" as a baldie yet but I have ventured out in a bandana. I wander around the backyard bald and the neighbors stare but I just smile and wave at them. I am sure that they think it's cancer. I wonder if anyone will bring me a casserole over, since I'm sick and all? Oh well. I love the free feeling! Wish I had done it sooner!

No one brought me a free casserole either!

I have done the bandana at work now, through summer. The alopecia explanation filtered around with no one actually asking me but everyone knowing I was OK. At the time of hair-shaving for fundraising for cancer research, I added a statement and weblink about donating long hair to our local alopecia foundation, so it was out there for people to learn about and understand.

I too enjoy being bald, although some days the novelty wears thin, but overall, it is cool, refreshing, clean, less fuss and a little edgey too! I think al lot of folk around here could benefit from your attitide, great post!

Sounds like you've been sorta doing the same thing as me! I just started taking walks around my neighborhood bald, and I'm loving it!! Ignore the stares, just smile and keep on goin'! If someone asks, which will more than likely happen sometimes, just be honest with them and educate them. It's good for people to know about other new things. Sooner or later everyone in the world will realize that just because someone's bald, doesn't mean that they have cancer. Take care!!

Exactly! Bald women won't become UNextraordinary until there are more of us out there in public. It's all about raising awareness and showing people that not every bald women is on chemo.

International Alopecia Day is August 6, 2011. I just started a Facebook group, and there's a group here on AW. Organize something small or large where you live, and take a photo on the day for my video slide show.

Also, check out my blog about the shaved-headed ladies on the new show The Voice, and an online poll.
