Hi Just thought I would share my experience of having AA.

I have had AA since I was 15 (almost 18 years) and found that confidence is a major part of how people view you and you in turn view yourself.

I was 16, and shy and not very confident and in collegue (was actually in class at the time) when I felt that first bald patch in my head, as my Dad has AU, so I knew what it was. After going to the doctor's, I went back to college and told everyone in the class about it. I got only 1 negative comment from a very pretty, popular girl, who said 'I would die if that happened to me! I wouldn't leave the house!'....but her comment was a revolution to me! I thought was a sad life! No way am I going to stop going out with friends or doing anything because of shallow people like HER!?!

Since that days I have always been very open about my Alopecia, I has never stop me in anything from going on fairground ride (YES patches showing to the world) to relationships or anything else. I have used extentions and hair pieces but my view is so do people without alopecia. I use them the same way, people use contacts instead of glasses.

If anyone asks me about or stares at my bald patches I smile look them right in the eye and say 'I have alopecia' and explain. I found that people are only uncomfortable with it, if you are.

You are an inspiration. Just during the last 10 years have i gotten comfortable enough with myself to tell people i wear a wig when they ask "is that your natural hair color"... most people are shocked (glad since i spend alot of money for the natural look), but i have never been confident enough to go au naturale to the world outside my immediate family. I have AU and wear a wig whenever out. you are awesome!~

Awe what a nice thing to say Kristin :-) Thank you so much :-) I have never got to that stage of AU and really admirror people who do and get up and get on with life. I hope I would stay the same. It is funny to see the shocked look on some people faces. I once had a guy come up to me in the pub and grab my hair and say 'That's a wig' (it was a hair piece actually) I took a deep breath and said loudly 'YES it is, my hair falls out, thanks so much for pointing that out to the world!! Now would you like to see my bald bits as well???' He sobered up fast and got away quickly with his mates shouting at him and saying sorry to me. No saying my face wasn't red but he ended up the worst for it he he x
