In 2006 miy best friend Missy, (who happened to be my aunt but we were only 5 years apart) died. It happened to be on Thanksgiving Day. By far this was the worst day of my life. One month later I noticed my hair was falling out. Not just a little, but huge patches. So to add to my grief, I lost my long brown hair. I went through HELL. I left my relationship of six years, (he was supportive) but I hated myself and everyone, besides my kids. Even my children were embarrassed, and I wore wigs for the next five years. Last year I went to the dermitologist and she gave me kenalog shots. My hair grew back. I was soooo happy!!!! But it only lasted a while. Then it started to fall out again. I got the shots again and it grew back in.I have to go get these shots every month to keep my hair from falling out. I got on this website while I was still losing my hair. But as sad as it is I didn't have the courage to talk to anyone. I wanted to tell my story in the hopes that someone can be helped by it. My advice is to never give up and prayer does help even though that was hard for me.

Sorry about your aunt/friend and all the ensuing disasters. I gave up on the shots...too painful, not working anymore, not covered by insurance. I just wear a wig or hat and go on with life. To get my boys to accept my alopecia after their dad didn't, our first non-dad "family vacation" after the divorce was to an alopecia conference. The boys (haired) had a blast staying up late with the bald kids and counselors in the hotel, and I had acceptance afterwards...plus gained insight for myself. See www.naaf.org.

Thanks for your comment, I'm really sorry for your suffering as well, I think the acceptance is the hardest part and it really helps to have the love of your children.

I would advise to see a herbal/natural doctor. They are the best at treating alopecia as well as almost everything else. I know, I am seeing one now and I have had good results with my hair loss so far.

Also, this may sound weird, but if there is a chance of your hair still growing back, then grind garlic in a blender and place it in a thin rag and rub it hard into the areas you are losing hair. I know its weird, but it works.
