Well, last May I started losing my hair and over the last 7 months, probably lost 80%. The only hair left was above my nape. I had long thick hair, so it was a bloody shock. What I've learnt from this Alopecia World is, if your hair grows back, some people say you don't need this website.I needed this website for those 7 months and still need it now, although my hair is now growing back. I am a changed person. All my life I had long thick hair. I have hair growing back, but I will look different. I've spent months covering my scalp as all the bald patches. But I'm nearly there with all patches covered it's all short and tufts now and I hope it doesn't fall out again. But who knows!

In my own case, very recently my head hair started regrowing slowly HOWEVER the new hair has the texture consistency & appearance of blackish grayish whitish COTTON CANDY ! YUCK! It is unsightly and has an oily appearance but with flyaway dry frizzy ends  AWFUL! just want to cut it all off ! I am happy being a 24/7

wig wearer. By the way I have noticed that with my Gemtress wigs the ''new cotton candy'' hair seems to interfere with the ''sticky'' latex in the cap that is supposed to ''grip'' to your skull, another reason I want to

cut it off ! -Marsha

My hair has fallen out (80% gone) twice, but has come back twice. Right now it has been growing since Aug. and it is almost all back. I HOPE yours is back to stay, but stay on top of it; I've promised myself the first sign of fallout, I'm heading back to the doc for pronto for the head-shots (they seem to work for me). Good luck! I am very, very, happy for you. I hope your good fortune continues.

I was wondering for those of you who took vitamins and had hair regrowth , did you continue use of vitamins even after your hair grew back ?
Comment by Debbi Fuller on February 26, 2014 at 7:22pm

You can take vitamins until doomsday.  If the alopecia has not shut itself off, they won't do any good at all.  If vitamins cured alopecia, we'd all have hair.  That's not to say that they aren't good for your general health, although recent studies have contested even that.  There is a lot of discussion in the medical community about how effective taking vitamins really is.  How are they absorbed?  Do you really just eliminate them when you pee?  The general consensus seems to be that it's better to eat properly but that is difficult since a lot of foods we eat have less vitamins and minerals now than they did years ago when they were grown in less depleted soils.  Just don't count on taking vitamins to grow back hair.  I try to buy most of my fruits and veggies at the farmer's markets in season.  In winter, it's a lot harder to do.

I am so glad to hear your hair is growing back.. did you take the injections?

My hair stops falling out after I get injections (takes 3-4 months); I don't know yet if the fallout is cyclical, my particular pattern, or if it is, in fact, the injections stopping the fallout and giving my hair the opportunity to return. My current doc says my vitamin D is very, very, low, and is working on the theory it could be the cause of my hair loss. Since losing my hair starts in late Nov. and starts to come back after I've been in Florida a few months (once again absorbing vitamin D), I'm wondering (hoping) if that is the case. In spite of what Debbi says, I'm going to continue on this path, take heavy doses of vitamin D, get plenty of sun, and hope my hair stays put. Since my hair was returning before I went to this doc, I won't know for quite a while. A sidebar, even the hair on my forearms has retuned, and a little on my legs; I have never lost my eyebrows (and none of my other facial hair, which I wouldn't mind losing!). I think this condition, the reasons for it, and what does or doesn't work (or if anything does) is different for everybody.

Whatever you are doing different keep doing it. Your hair may have stopped the shedding cycle on its own. The human body is amazing. I hope so. I have scarring alopecia and I can see the ridges of the scar outline and cannot see how it will comeback.

So what is the protocol for injections?  How often, how much area can be covered?  My dermatologist seems very slow . . . I see regrowth and then before I see him again (6-8 weeks) it falls out.  Thoughts?

My doc injects me every 4 weeks in assorted areas, in a different spot every month, or where we determine needs the most attention. My hair has mostly grown back, so I have discontinued the injections. I am very paranoid about it falling out again, so I check it almost almost daily; if I see the fallout starting up again, back to the doc I go ASAP!

I also get my injections once a month not results yet but I am still praying..
