My body is starting to go through changes once again where I am beginning to loose the hair again...like my eyelashes. Not worried about my legs, that will just save me more time in not having to shave...lol But what is bothering me more is how my nails are becoming severely affected to the point where it hurts because they are sore. I have noticed the change in my nails within the past two weeks where the nail bed has become weak and my nails are breaking at the meat. I was reading on one website dermnetnz.org where it states that nail diseases affects between 10%-50% of people who have Alopecia Areata. Is there anyone else that are having issues with their nails? If so, what nail products do you use to strengthen your nails? I had teh piting and ridging and I was able to some Sally Hansen products to cover that up but I am experiencing a different type of nail changes.
Maybe check with your dermatologist-- I asked if my alopecia areata could be caused by excessive vit A due to over use of retin A, and her first response was to ask about/look at my nails (which were/are not giving me problems). Might be worth exploring...
I had gave up on the doctors years ago when they told me there was nothing they could do about my alopecia. It looks like I am going to have to do a revisit about my nails. Thanks Tracey!
I have notice over the last months that my nails has change to the point of breaking off as you have stated. My nails also look like they have dirt under them at all times...I wash and clean the nails several times a day but nothing change. I never thought twice about it could some kind of nail disease. Wow!
Look into Biotin for your nails.
Thanks JeffreySF!!!
Hey JeffreySF what is a good brand for the Biotin?
Hi Nicole, I've been using biotin for a while now. Biotin 5000, I get it from GNC or the Vitamin shoppe. I think the vitamin shoppe is cheaper :)
I take a brand called NatureMade 2500 mg every day or 2
