I am new to this site. I was diagnosed with alopecia eleven years ago. For the most part I was getting injections in my eyebrows but in the past year I have lost all the hair on my head and all eyelashes. Recently I have seen my fingernails deteriorate. they are brittle, with nail pitting. All of them look awful. I have been taking biotin since April and have not seen positive results. The dermatologist gave me cream but that has not worked. Does anyone have advice? I am very self conscious about the nails.

Any advice or tips would be appreciated. Thanks and I am glad I found this site.

How much Biotin are you taking?

Try going to a salon and getting acrylic nails. I have one awful nail and I wear a false one over just that one.

I'm taking 2500 mcg currently. I used to take 5000 but I couldn't find it at the drugstore.
I suppose men can wear acrylic nails...why not?

Greetings friends, I had alopecial in my 30's after childbirth, now my 29 year old son has it, not a hair on his body. His nails are a wreck too. He has been taking biotin also, no luck. It seems there is nothing that works. My hair eventually grew back. He was bald for 5 years and the in 2 weeks all the rest fell out everywhere. Don't waste money going to dr.s. cath

Lovelyjan, what is the treatment for psoriasis? I am kind of at my wit send with the nails. I probably not going to try acryllic. Got to be a solution to this

Sportsguy, the cream that the dermatologist gave me is Clobetasol 0.05%. I was told to apply to skin of fingers just above the nails once at night because the cream would not do any good on the nails itself...well its not doing any good @ all. Nails looks like they have aged over a short period of time....really hates the way they look.
