Hi all
It's been a while since I have been on here, I have some solid hair growth in the initial area that fell out and it looks good, the rest is growing in patches. I cut the rest of all the straggly bits of hair which I'm glad because it has been really hot these past few weeks. I have had some good comments from those that have seen it, though I still have to wear my wig. Id say I need another 6 months for it to all grow and cover my head. Taking this step by step. :-)
A few things have happened, I have a underactive thyroid, which I haven't taken medication for at this stage. Working with my naturopath and kinesiologist.
Next thing I have had this spot on my arm for a while, without going into all the details, I had a biopsy done on it and I have "Cryptococcosis" (fungal infection). The treatment for this is "Fluconazole", ( I think it's a pretty heavy duty drug) will need to take this medication for initially 4 weeks and the see where it is at and possibly longer though I have read for longer periods but that is for severe cases of the infection. As all medications have side effects, guess what one of the side effects is? Alopecia!!!!. So my concern is will this make my alopecia worse, eg the new hair growth falling out. The microbiologist is aware of my alopecia, he said to me it is a different type of alopecia that can occur. I just read about it (Reversible alopecia)
I am wondering if anyone has taken this medication or suffered from Cryptococcosis and what they have done to treat it.
Thanks
