Hello, my name is clarabella and I am thinking about shaving my head for the first time. I would like to get a wig to wear during the day for work. Can anyone give me some ideas about where to go in the UK, and what to look for? Thank you so much!

Hi,
I live in UK and i just got a wig via the NHS. I know it varies from area to area but you need to ask your doctor to refer you to a dermatologist who will refer you/give you a prescription for a wig. In my case the dermatologist refered me and the hair place rang me to organise a time for a wig fitting. Over here in Northern Ireland you can get 2 synthetic wigs per year or 1 human hair wig (if you're entitled to it - I was) per year. Wigs are expensive and alot of people don't seem to realise you can get it on the NHS if you cannot cover up your bald patches.

Thank you for your advice, I may go back to my dermatologist as he has diagnosed female pattern baldness which he says is likely to get worse over time. I still have quite a bit of hair left so I don't know if he would prescribe a wig but I do feel very self conscious most of the time and I want to feel better about myself.

hello clarabella how r u, i got my wig from the nhs aswell, they only cost the same price as a prescription, £4,
the hospital will tell u wat hairdressers u can go to to choose ur wig, but if u get a choice of a couple of hairdressers please go to both,
i went to the first shop and thot fab i found a great wig it only took a week to come but that was in july i got my first one, and i dont like goin there for gettin it trimmed or that as i dont really like the people in there, there is one women who seems very ignorant and that is a big put off, so please contact ur derm and get all the info from them,
