Hi everyone I'm new here! Thought it was a good time to share my experiences. I'm a 48 year old bloke, happily married father of four living in the UK. I have always had a very full head of hair and have never experienced any type of hair loss in the past. In fact my hair has always been so thick that barbours have often said to me how I shall never go bald! About three months ago I came across a bald patch on the side of my head about the size of a 2 pound coin. Since then this patch has grown to the size of a fried egg! from a distance it looks like there is a light bulb on the side of my head. I spoke to my doctor who explained I have AA and that one of four things could happen - either; 1) The hair will continue to fall out, 2) The hair will stop falling out 3) The hair will re grow or, 4) The hair will not re-grow. Having read alot of the blogs on this sight I am sure you will agree that my doctor has the measure of things....
One interesting fact: . Over the last few years my black hair has slowly been turning grey in the normal way. I would say that 10% of my hair spread over my head is now grey. Strangely this grey hair is continuing to grow strongly in the bald patch .....loyal fellows those grey hairs.
Fortunaterly I am at that stage in life that it isn't that big of deal for me although if I was honest, I would rather it didn't happen, am hoping that the hair will stop falling out and things to return to normal. However, reading some of the stories on this site has made me appreciate how miserable it must be for some of the younger victims of this disease and can only hope that they find some sort of peace with their condition.
