I've been on prednisolone for wow, nearly 4 and a 1/2 months. In a week, I'll be done with weaning off it! So far, i've experienced more than 90% of hair regrowth and while I admit it's rather exciting to see the hair, I know that I'll never know if it'll fall again once I stop the treatment.

Regardless, I've pretty much decided that I wouldn't do the oral steroid treatment again. Simply because of the side effects, I've gotten sleepless nights, upset stomachs, frequency of peeing, a bit of a weight gain and the dreaded "moon face". I knew that steroids would cause weight gain so I tried to watch my diet very carefully (difficult since I'm a foodie!!). Thus, my weight gain has hovered around only 2 kg.

Now that I'm weaning off, I've been able to sleep through the night for the first time in months but now I'm getting irritable moods, joint pain in my right knee and my left index finger. I do hope it'll go away soon!

I was talking to my good friend about it yesterday and she told me that she thinks I've lost a bit of weight since a month ago and my face looks slimmer. A month ago when she met up with me she noticed it and assumed it was because of my steroid treatment. She also said, " Clara you're starting to look more like yourself again" which made me happy and also think, wow didn't realise how swollen my face was! LOL

I to am on prednisone and am experiencing all those side affects. I am weening off of it and thankful cause I am tired of waking up 3-4 times a night to go to the bathroom. This is irritating in itself. The prednisone has worked for me too. I am getting most of the hair back. Is your coming in color or white?

Thanks Tiffany! :) And you're right, I mean now I know how to deal with it so I'm going to be prepared.

Dana, my hair was coming in white initially but now my hair's back to black. I agree the side effects are just really annoying and am thankful that I'm weaning off!

Hi Clara, I go to the dermotologist next week for a follow up appointment which has been scheduled for 3 months. Well, just last week after almost full re-growth, I noticed new spots forming. So...now I need to decide whether or not to get the shots or possibly go back on the Prednisone. I really don't want the hair if I have to stay on steroids to keep it, knw what I mean? It's just not worth it.
take care,
Jenna

Hey Jenna, I totally get what you mean! I'm never going back on the steroids again (at least not for alopecia). I don't think it's worth the side effects just to grow hair! I'm officially off them (since yesterday) and am so happy to be rid of them!!

So are you going to get the shots then?
Take care!
